Great quiet location with beautiful sunsets!

We loved the view, location and kind people around. Condominium was clean and comfortable for family of 4. We enjoyed the sunset form our balcony and pool ground every evening. Would recommend to others. The management was very helpful and responsive for all our questions and needs . Mahalo

Great Complex, Great Location

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we loved the location and the complex. The condo unit itself was quite good and the lanai, complete with a fan, being the best feature. It could have been excellent but for a few details: A full load of laundry was left in the dryer, which I didn't notice till just before we left but which might explain the lack of tea towels and dish cloths! The coffee pot clearly hadn't been washed in months, which I had to do before I could use it. Silverware completely inadequate and cheap: 3 forks? 4 knives? While they had a good selection of large drink glasses there were no wine glasses (unless you counted the bulb ones with the palm trees painted on them; yuck!). Cupboards were crammed full of stuff, not organized and not very clean. I washed what I needed before using. I would (and have) recommended this place but I might look for other units in this complex.

Nice Condo Complex; Good Service

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Kona Makai condo complex is a great place to stay. Nicely run place with beautiful oceanfront grounds. Booking with Knutsen was easy and worked out very well. We really liked the service provided by Knutsen. So, that's the good. The not so good was the actual condo itself. The unit was tired. Needs a gutting. The area of the AC unit in the master bedroom had a pretty funky odour, and the intake needed a good cleaning. We replaced the shower curtain, as the existing one was pretty nasty. Many of the little details I have come to expect when renting other condos were not there. The beach gear was kinda ******. The beach chairs were not in great shape and one of the boogie boards was falling apart. There was no cooler or cooler bag for beach excursions. Other probs included the door on the washer that had to be held shut to get the machine to start up. One night we decided to watch a movie, but the DVD player would not function properly. We were told that the place was for sale, and by the lack of attention to some of the basics and details in the unit, you can tell that this is the case. Seems like the owner doesn't care. In summary, I would stay at Kona Makai again, and would also use Knutsen again for the booking. But I would not recommend this unit in it's current state.

Annual Big Island Christmas Trip 2015

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 1st time staying at the Kona Makai after staying several years at another complex. We loved the space and the vaulted ceiling. It's a very quiet unit, within a very quiet, well-maintained property. The unit has a large lanai and offers a distant ocean view, but were very pleased to have a direct sunset view, for the time period we were there. One downside is that should you have little kids who like to play with other little kids down at the pool, as we do, this complex might not be the best choice in Kona for you, as the pool was usually without other kids. Additionally, the complex has a bylaw that prohibits people under 14 from using the hot-tub, for which we respected. We have been coming to Kona for about a decade, and the things that draw us back are the great snorkeling either close-by right out in-front of the complex and at Kahaluu or more distantly at 2 Step, Beach 69 or Kapoho Tide pools. We love driving the Big Island. New Saddle Rd and Hwy 137 Kalapana to Kapoho are our favorite drives. Amazing quiet beaches and hikes on the Big Island too. This was my 1st time booking with Knutson, and I would do so again. Property Manager Blake as great to deal with. Aloha

Reviewer Comments: Kona Makai is a great complex to stay at. the unit is clean and well maintained but a little dated. loved setting on the lanai in the morning sun and watching the sunsets in the evening. the unit can get kind of warm, it has air conditioners but we found putting the portable fan in front of the bed room window to create cross ventilation was better.
