*** PLEASE NOTE: The town of Lake Lure is open and welcoming guests following Hurricane Helene! Access roads and essential services, including power, water, and WiFi, have been restored, thanks to the hard work of contractors and volunteers. While the Chimney Rock area, Lake Lure beaches, and waterfront are currently closed, there are still many nearby attractions to enjoy.
Area restaurants, including those in Lake Lure and Asheville, are reopening, and there are many activities available within an hour's drive, including golf, wineries, breweries, music, trails, waterfalls, and more. Tryon Equestrian Center is hosting some Chimney Rock businesses affected by the storm. Saluda, Hendersonville, Forest City, Asheville, Greenville, SC, and Charlotte, NC, all make great day trips.
By visiting, you're supporting the local businesses of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Western NC.
Our trip was cut short by Hurricane Helene and we ended up leaving town before the worst hit so we really didnât enjoy our trip, however that had nothing to do with the property. Very nice house with beautiful views. Needs something to identify the address. There is no mailbox or any sort of house number, sign, etc. We originally turned down a gravel drive for a property next door under construction and almost got stuck. The gravel drive of this property needs to be scraped as there are some deep gulleys: Also beware of the bears. One was coming down the side steps to the bottom deck while my husband was out taking photos. But house was overall nice. I wish we could have enjoyed it.
We enjoyed this great lake house. The view while eating al fresco is wonderful! We spent all our time in the water, on the dock, or enjoying the views at the house. And my son was thrilled to catch several fish:) We will definitely return.
The property was clean and the view of the lake was amazing. And we loved eating our meals outside on the deck.
Lots of steps -- more than we expected, and no handrail on the steps from the boathouse.
The tub was a challenge - getting in and out and no place to put shampoo and soap.
We were disappointed in the quality of the life jackets and the kayaks.
The rental company was attentive and tried to address our concerns in real time.
We had a lovely time. The weather was perfect and the views from the dock were breathtaking. The house was super cute and very clean. We did have an issue with the downstairs freezer leaking, but the property manager was extremely responsive. The only thing that would have been nice would have been to have the cobwebs brushed away on the dock. I'd definitely recommend this property and we will be back.
Was a very nice stay. I wish it was a bit closer to town but no fault of the home itself. The kyaks were full of spilled coffee and trash but understand how that gets missed. Overall the boat house needs a good cleaning. But again, house and overall stay were great. No complaints
119 steps to the lake and no Internet. Kudzu overwhelming what must have been gorgeous landscaping. But the home was really nice. And the location is legendary. We had a nice time in spite the above beefs.
Will begin with positives: FANTASTIC view! Separation of units would be great for 2 couples. Enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning. Air conditioning and hot water were NOT issues....plenty of both! Nice W/D setup. However, the kitchenwares could use some attention. There was only ONE wineglass. Both skillets were warped to the point that it was difficult to fry bacon. There were only 2 spoons. Dishwasher wheel was broken so loading/unloading was tricky. We were also not prepared to leave the trash IN the unit until the end of our stay. There is a rule against putting it outside, which I understand. Don't nobody want bear visitors. However, picking it up once during the week would've been helpful.
The bathroom in the lower unit has a clawfoot tub/shower and, while it is pretty, it is very impractical for a rental. Where do you put your soap?? And I'm very thankful my hubby and I were nimble enough to climb over the sides of the tub. Plus, the plastic shower curtains make you feel like you are showering in a plastic bag. Just very, very impractical. Upstairs is better, but if you are wider than 2 ft., good luck. Lastly, please make sure no one in your party has any sort of issue whatsoever with stairs as there are a LOT. This has been noted in other reviews, but I just want to reiterate that its a LOT. I'm very thankful we didn't bring my in-laws as there is no way they could've navigated them.
The house was what we expected. The toilets, showers, kitchen area, bedrooms, living areas were clean. The bed and bedding was comfortable. There were plenty of towels and wash rags provided. There was plenty of start up soaps, cleaners, garbage bags. When we were trying to find the place, we drove past it. The mailbox was laying on the ground and you could not see the house number. When we arrived at the house the bottom units door knob was barely attached. this was easily fixed with a screwdriver. There were a lot of ants in the unit. We were very disappointed looking out the windows as they were covered with dust and cobwebs and spiders. There are about 100 steps down to the boat house. I had previously read about that, so I was not surprised by it and it was not a problem for us. I wouldâve liked to seen the brush cleared away from the path a little bit more. You could tell something had been living in the boathouse. There were a lot of old Floaties in there, someone had left some old containers of worms and the windows needed a good cleaning. We were afraid to move anything as we didnât know what we would find lying underneath things. With a general cleaning this space could be exceptional. Overall it was a nice place. Views were beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife which we enjoyed. This place could easily go from 3 to 5 with just some general maintenance and cleaning of the exterior windows and spaces. It does have Wi-Fi but itâs slow. Perfect if you want to be off grid
Both apartments are very well appointed. The kitchens are well-equipped. We had a rainy week but still enjoyed ourselves. The property management company was very prompt with bringing us a propane tank refill and helping us with the alarm system which triggered when the power went out due to a storm. Thank you for a relaxing stay.
