MOUNTAIN JOY COTTAGES #3 - OWL LODGE

Mountain Joy Cottage #3, Owl Lodge, is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath (2 with jacuzzi tubs) lodge that can sleep 13.

Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories at Mountain Joy Cottages.

Again

This is our 3rd stay at Mtn. Joy Owl cabin. The large size works great for our family. The little ones enjoy the fishing. The elk never disappoint. The pool is nice, and cold (just like a mountain stream). Even though the cabin could use a little extra love, the size fits our needs and we know what to expect at this point.

Great place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Maggie Valley. The property is great and was plenty spacious for our large family that includes several children. We got to see elk and ducks right in the front yard several times each day! The cabin was well stocked and for the most part clean. The dishwasher did not work, one tv was broken and another was missing a remote that we later found under a bed. But all in all it was totally worth it and we are already planning our trip for next year :)

Disappointed

The property is a nice property, but with no one showing it any love. I rented this cabin for my sister’s 70th birthday with 4 couples, all over 60. It was extremely dusty and dirty. So dusty, that I started sneezing as soon as I stepped in the door and my throat got scratchy to the point I took an allergy tablet. Spider webs in corners with spiders attached. Ants in the kitchen. I’m glad my husband and I got there early to decorate. We had to literally clean and dust before decorating . We had no choice out of town family was due there in a couple of hours and I didn’t want to be embarrassed by renting it and I couldn’t get a refund. I didn’t want to ruin my sisters birthday weekend. We definitely left it better than when we got there. My brother even had to fix a couple of items. We have pics. All and all I’m just glad my sister had a great time!

Owl Lodge great for multiple families. Needs thorough cleaning.

If you can get past an occasional stink bug and dust bunnies, Owl lodge is a great location for multiple families. The pond was great for kids fishing and the basketball hoop and open central area were perfect for our 4-11 year olds. A total of 13 in our group of all ages fit comfortably. Impressive kitchen equipment selection available. Clean linens and lots of towels, but needed all floors cleaned in and around furniture. Although many lights did not function and fans were all covered in layers of dust, we would stay again!

Cabin has more than 5 doors to come-in or go. Main door doesnt has lock at all. One bedroom doesn't has lock from in side. TV remote was not available in living room. Table tennis was not available. Dart game was completely broken. Foosball table missing one handle.

Great place for big groups

We rented owl lodge for a class field trip to the Smoky Mountains. It was a great place to stay for our big group. The place was even bigger than it looked in the photos. Really enjoyed our stay!

Great family vacation home

The size and layout was perfect for our multi generational family. We all had private sleeping quarters with baths and the common rooms were spacious. We especially enjoyed breakfast around the big table.

Very spacious!

We rented Mountain Joy #3 for a week at Christmas and for the second half of the week had a full house that included some toddlers and babies. There was a lot of room to spread out and the living room and kitchen are very spacious! (Though for some reason, the kitchen is never shown in the pictures.) The location is very close to Cataloochee Ski Area and also very close to town. We ate all of our meals there and were able to all sit at the very large dining room table. Beds were comfortable and we loved having so many bathrooms! I am not giving 5 stars because of the following: 1) the dishwasher did not work; 2) though the kitchen was well stocked for cooking and eating, there were absolutely no dishtowels or dishcloths. (Thankfully I had brought some from home!); 3) some parts of the house were not very clean; and 4) not a lot of parking close to the house ... hard to move in and out. (we did drive around back once we saw that it was possible, but still crowded) Highlights: the kids enjoyed the ducks on the pond and 2 mornings we saw large elk in front and in back of the house!

We loved mountain joy 3

I stayed this weekend with 13 others 11 adults and 3 children. It was great for us the sitting arrangements and kitchen was great for us together. Then the bedrooms where such we had our privacy. The location was for the most part clean but it could have been a little bit better. Outside area was quite and nice but you where close to area restaurants and shops. Overall we had a great time and would definitely consider returning next year.

Great house for a large family

The best thing is the space this house has - in addition to the bedrooms, the living spaces are large and comfortable for a large group. The house is split up in a way that allows people that need quiet or privacy at different times to do that. It is a cabin and a little "rustic" but what we expected. We did have a maintenance problem but they responded quickly. Overall, everyone was happy and comfortable and we would stay again.

Great for youth group!

Our Boy Scout Troop took a weekend trip to Mountain Joy #3. We had a great time and the cabin was perfect for our large groups. Lots of room and activities for the boys!
