4/10 Poor

Public Hotel is a hip place to come and hang out if you are a 20-something hoping to go clubbing or co-work. The decor--from lounge to rooftop--is fresh and cool as intended. However, it's not a great place to stay. The cold water in our sink came out at barely a trickle. We paid extra for a "city view" but that meant we were over the entrance and basement nightclub, which kept us up until 3 a.m. every night. The iPad check in did not work, so the staff person had to redo it from scratch. We were hit at checkout with an unannounced $50/day resort fee, but were at first turned away from the rooftop club because one of us was wearing shorts, only to change, go up, and see several men in shorts (overnight guests are supposed to be given preferred treatment for club access for that $50/day). The guests-only lounge in the lobby is supposed to be open until 4 p.m. each day, but we were scooted out at 10 a.m.. The hallway smelled like a pool for several days, wet paint on another (there is no pool). Staff? What staff, other than the bewildered elevator bouncer and iPad assistant? Etc. etc. A LOT of great intent and desire to be cool, different, and innovative. And that hugely succeeds if you're in the area and want to come by for a drink, a work spot that's a step up from a cafe, or an excellent network locale. For lodging? Not enough focus on that here due to too much focus on everything else. Better options for lodging readily available nearby.
