"Above the Clouds" is nestled among 7 private acres at the very top of Gateway Mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. This authentic, three-level log cabin is approximately 2,000 square feet, with stunning panoramic views from every room and the enchanting smell of pine throughout. Watching the lights come alive in the valley below and marveling at the colors of the mountains slowly changing as the sun sets will only further the feeling that there's no place like being "Above the Clouds." Perfect for couples, families, and friend groups of up to 6 guests — this secluded mountain retreat is your front-row seat to the best views in the region.

About the Home
-Well-equipped kitchen with eat-in dining for 6, dishwasher, and two coffee makers (Keurig and standard drip-style).
-Impressive great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a wood-burning stone fireplace, and a Smart TV—a perfect spot to watch the Blue Ridge Mountains change with every season.
-The main floor deck boasts a gas grill, lounge chairs, a picnic table, and a screened-in porch with a gas fire table.
-The yard offers a fire pit area with seating for 6 overlooking panoramic mountain views, and a newly added fenced dog run, making this one of the most dog-friendly mountain cabin rentals near Asheville.

Where to Unwind
-The main floor offers a primary bedroom with a king-size bed and an en suite bathroom (shower and bathtub combination). A powder room is also located on the main floor.
-The upper level offers two bedrooms (one queen-size, one king-size) and a full bathroom (shower and bathtub combination) with hallway access. A loft overlooking the living room provides additional living space with a game table and games.
-The lower level offers a game room with a gas fireplace, 55" Smart TV, and custom-built log pool table; plus access to the covered deck with hot tub and sitting area—all with long-range mountain views.
-After dark, step outside for some of the best stargazing in the region. Perched above the valley light, the night sky here is a destination of its own.

Getting Here: Plan to arrive during daylight hours for your first visit. The drive to this gorgeous cabin winds through steep mountain roads with some twists and turns, and the final stretch is a gravel road — having a 4WD or AWD vehicle is required. Guests consistently tell us the drive is part of the adventure, and that the views at the top make every twist worth it.

Please note: There is a Ring camera facing the driveway. No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community.

Above the Clouds was a simply wonderful place to take a long weekend getaway. It was secluded and comfortable, but convenient to all the fun shops and restaurants in Black Mountain, just a short drive away. The cabin is well appointed and very clean, with plenty of things to do and enjoy without leaving the house. Communication was excellent and check-in/out was simple. Highly recommended!

This places checks all the boxes when looking for somewhere for a family with teenagers to stay. The pool table and hot tub were a huge it. And I wanted an amazing view!!! I can't even describe the view, but I will say you have to see it for yourself!! We had a slight issue getting the door unlocked but messaged the number provided and they called within about 10 minutes. They were able to remedy the situation quickly and got us enjoying our vacation!!

Great time here, did not want to leave the property once we arrived as it is a little precarious going up and down the mountain (particularly in rainy weather). Cabin was clean and views were better than advertised.

We stayed during the week of Christmas at the cabin. As previously mentioned, the views are absolutely stunning and better in person. Plenty of room for our teens to have their own space and my husband and I to enjoy time together. Definitely need 4WD or AWD to get up and down the mountain. I would also suggest some holiday decorations - we picked some up at Wal-Mart when we went on our grocery shopping trip. Would definitely love to come back and would recommend to anyone looking for a true mountain getaway!

I couldn't have picked a better place to spend quality time with my family, overlooking the most beautiful mountains. The views from "every" room are spectacular. Host was welcoming with instructions and a goody bag and responded if we had an issue. The cabin is in a beautiful setting high atop Bear Mountain. Sunrises and sunsets were gorgeous. We had awesome family time during the holidays. If I could make a suggestion, it would be that the cabin have type of Christmas decorations when rented during the holiday season. We actually went to the local DG and bought decorations to decorate the cabin. Also, I would gladly have washed our towels and sheets before leaving, but I couldn’t find any laundry detergent. Overall, we had an amazing family holiday trip!

In the clouds!!!

My husband and I love visiting the mountains and we are always traveling to different locations. This cabin by far had the best view we have ever experienced. Almost every evening was spent relaxing on the deck, star gazing, and enjoying the view. We definitely will be back.

Wonderful property! The entire check in and out process was extremely easy. Arrived to a wonderful complimentary bag of coffee, paper towels and starter soap pack. Well stocked kitchen. Firstly, the property is meticulously landscaped & maintained and the long range view was spectacular! The cleanliness of the interior was spot on and we especially appreciated the welcome package including a generous supply of toiletries, soaps & cleaning accesories and yummo popcorn. Bath towels in excellent condition, smelling fresh and perfectly draped in place. Household provisions were plentiful and the amenities were great-we loved challenging each other at the pool table! Played cards on the breezy screen porch and did we ever relax! Great location, easy drive to Old Fort & a short hop from Black Mountain. The only thing that gave me pause was the strong smell of the hot tub, I was hesitant to enjoy it for long. Nonetheless, already plotting our comeback, and we WILL be back! Thanks for a great stay. Wonderful views, quiet and plenty to do with a hot tub, pool table, fireplace and Tvs. Would like to have seen the screen porch cleaned. My wife spent 45 min cleaning the table and chairs so we could use the area. We understand the pollen but it was fine all weekend after she cleaned. Major concern is the fridge. Its unusable. After the first night we had to go to the store and use coolers for food and threw out $150 worth of food that smelled and/or tasted like fish. The food that we didn't use we threw out when we got home for the same reason. Loved the stay and would stay again apart from the fridge issue.

Very nice cabin

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It had a very nice view, was not too hard to get to despite the directions seeming challenging, and the property management was excellent. Our two complaints were as follows: 1. The fridge smelled horrible. The guests before us must have left fish in the fridge and/or freezer. It made our ice smell like fish, some of our food, etc. It was very frustrating, but quite obviously no fualt of the owner/management company. They had deodorizers and brought fresh baking soda for us. My issue is they didn't tell us before our arrival about the issue. 2. The staircase up to the 2nd floor is dangerous. We were worried about our kids going down the stairs. We won't come back to this cabin because of this reason, unfortunately. If you don't have kids though, this is a great place.

Definitely Above the Clouds

The home and property is beautiful and just as described. The views are amazing. It's quiet and serene. Check-in was easy, property management company very responsive and home was very clean and well appointed. Take heed to the requirements for 4wd. The drive up the mountain is beautiful but not for the faint of heart, especially when using the Sally Gap Gate. Bear Mountain Road is pretty well worn/washed out, as is the driveway, so try to be prepared for a heart racing entry and exit. Couldn't have asked for a better stay or location. Just hated the ride up and down the mountain (and we are very experienced mountain vacationers)

Beautiful view

This home is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay! Definitely requires 4 wheel drive to get up the mountain. We had to leave a day early because we were expecting snow and did not want to get stuck. Everything was great but the only thing we didn’t have was toilet paper. Only 2 rolls for the whole place so we had to buy some more but other than that it was very clean and we enjoyed the view. The hot tub is by far the best part! It does take a good ten minutes to get up and down the mountain so calculate that in ur plans. Downtown old fort is quaint and cute. Thanks for the great stay💙

That view tho!

You can’t beat that view! It was unbelievable - a different amazing set of colors and mountains and clouds each morning and evening. The neighborhood was great. Secluded and beautiful, a true mountain getaway. We enjoyed the quiet. It felt like our family was alone on the mountain. The property was well-maintianed and as advertised. We enjoyed grilling out, wine on the back porch, and a family dip in the hot tub. The neighborhood waterfall is really impressive. And while we didn't need much, the realty company was very responsive. All of it was worth the 15-20 minute drive to the house from restaurants and sights. There's no trash service, so it's worth planning ahead that you need to haul your own trash out (no leaving it outside because of wildlife!). We highly recommend and can see ourselves coming back next year!

Believe the reviews. The view from this cabin cannot be beat. Huge deck to spend your mornings and evenings and find absolute serenity. We grilled out every evening and pretty much never left. If you want a true getaway, this is it!

There are not enough stars to give the view this property has. Spent every morning watching the sunrise. Gated community is so peaceful, especially their waterfall. I can understand why drive up might be daunting to some but at no point did I feel uncomfortable, and when you reach the top the view is breathtaking. We did unfortunately have some issues with the house during our stay, but the rental company was very easy to communicate with, and addressed the issues as promptly as they could. Not to go into all, but we were traveling with out 8 month old who crawls around/pulls himself up everywhere, and upon arrival needed to clean house ourselves (there was just too much dust/pollen in main areas). Only other thing to keep in mind is it is some distance to get anywhere depending how much exploring you are looking to do or essentials you need (30-60mins) but all part of being rewarded for such a view. This house is capable of being a 5star+ every time. Activities while there: Biltmore Mansion, Community waterfall, Catawba Falls, Chimney Rock State Park, Crabtree Falls, Western NC Nature Center & Asheville for day.

Our stay at "Above The Clouds"!

Our stay at this cabin was amazing and we'll never forget it!! My wife absolutely loved the hot tub while my boys and I couldn't get enough of the pool table! The drive up the mountain was a bit daunting, but it was SO worth it for the stunning views! If there was any way to improve the "Above The Clouds" experience, it would be limited to a couple of things. First, might I suggest having renters use an alternate gate into the complex to avoid the "scary" drive up the mountain side? We entered through the suggested gate when we arrived, but then exited out of the main gate when we left. I thought that the main gate route was much less harrowing (less steep)! Additionally, the water pressure could be a bit better in the showers. Aside from those couple of things, this place is truly one of a kind and I look forward to returning someday!! Did I mention the stunning views?!?! Thanks for sharing this AMAZING property!!
