Black Bear Summit, formerly Cool View Cabin, offers awe-inspiring views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Lure, and the peaceful rolling ridges beyond. Nestled atop Gateway Mountain, a private, 3,000-acre nature preserve, this charming log cabin is the perfect retreat for family and friends seeking a quiet getaway that's still convenient to all that Western North Carolina has to offer.

Important to Note: This house is dog-friendly, with a $100.00 non-refundable fee per dog (maximum of two). Sorry, this home is not cat-friendly due to common allergies. During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snowplow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles.

We also recommend travel insurance for those staying in the Gateway Mountain development during the winter months. No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community.

Amazing view close to endless fun

Our group of six had an amazing trip. The views off the back deck are stunning and the hot tub was lovely in the snow. The cabin itself was very clean and well appointed, and very close to many hikes and breweries. The Greybeard staff was very accommodating and helpful as well. We can’t wait to go back!

We loved our stay at this house. The view is breathtaking. The house had everything we needed and was well marked with instructions for operating. We enjoyed the lake, waterfall and little hike. We even saw a mama bear with a tiny cub!

Gorgeous view!

The cabin was nice, and the view worth the drive up the mountain. Very comfortable and we had a good week, Biltmore Christmas, a visit to favorite restaurant Esmeralda at Lake Lure, and topped it off with a visit to Hillman's in Old Fort. Would recommend it.
