Dreaming in Tuscany

Posted Oct. 5, 2022 on HomeAway
After navigating the roads out of Florence, we came to the base of the tiny, bumpy and winding “road” that takes you to the house. That in itself is an adventure! But the views! And then to arrive to see the smiling face of Jane :). The home was comfortable, well set up and great for the four of us. Jane had done a small grocery shop for us ahead of time which was much appreciated and all needed directions were easily to hand. We loved eating at the recommended restaurant in Rufino and had a great time during the winery tour up at the castle. Well worth the visit. Walks around the house were enjoyed immensely, and day trips from the train station to Pisa, Florence or beyond were easily navigated. A lovely experience overall Oh a piece of advise when driving: enter into Google maps “dino pieracciono” when returning back to the house from anywhere you drive, and that will take you to the base of the small road leading up to it.

Exquisite property and stay

Posted Jan. 23, 2020 on HomeAway
We stayed at Villa Borgo di Sopra for one week during winter, and we were beyond happy with our choice for many reasons. The villa and surrounding property itself were extraordinary—every detail had been lovingly restored and given precise attention. This property could easily pass for a 4+-star resort. Jane and Gianpiero were wonderful hosts, always ready to answer a question, make a reservation, make sure we were comfortable, and give advice on sightseeing. Arriving at night, we found the directions to the villa accurate, and Jane was there to shepherd us through the last turn in the road as we pulled into the villa. After a busy week in Rome, we enjoyed mixing sightseeing with relaxing. The villa proved a place where you could rest and recharge (and play), or keep busy every day with activities in the region. For couples, this property is especially romantic. We stayed in to enjoy our most favorite elements: the roaring fireplace, spacious dining room for meals "at home", and Jane and Gianpiero's pets, Peggy Guggenheim and Jasmine, who visited with us in our living room and even slept with us a couple of nights. As animal lovers, what a comfort and joy as we missed our furbabies from back home! Even though it was January, there were several days when it was warm enough to sit outside in the sun and read a book at one of the outdoor sitting/dining areas. There were picturesque views of the Tuscan countryside from nearly every window. The photos of the villa are incredibly accurate, but even more beautiful in person. The beds are very comfortable and the linens seemingly brand-new. If we had one issue, it was that the hot water in the second bathroom was difficult to control, so showers were either scalding hot or freezing cold, but that wouldn't be an issue with taking a bath, and it was our fault for never asking for advice. We had rented a car and were just 40-minutes from Florence and an hour+ from Pisa. We enjoyed exploring the little villages and ancient towns in the surrounding hills. Within a couple miles of the villa is a wonderland of reasons to get lost on purpose. We genuinely loved every moment of our stay and are trying to figure out how to return! Thank you so much Jane, Gianpiero, Peggy and Jasmine!

Thank you for your informative review. January is a quieter time of year here but can be so beautiful and means you never have to wait in line when visiting the museums. Thank you for being intrepid and finding us!

Un piccolo angolo di paradiso Toscano/A little slice of Tuscan heaven

Words seem inadequate in describing our stay at Borgo di Sopra. Everything about our stay was perfect. Jane and Gianpiero were incredibly kind and gracious hosts who did more than we could have expected to make our stay as wonderful as it was. The setting is classic Tuscany with incredible views of the grapevines and olive groves. It is an easy 25-minute train ride into Firenze, but the amount of peace and quiet we had out in the vineyards was a perfect respite from the hot and crowded city. We loved our al fresco meals under the pergola surrounded by lavender and rosemary. On our way in, we realized we would like to eat dinner before arriving at the property, and Jane made reservations for us at a wonderful restaurant nearby. Moreover, they booked a tour at the Frescobaldi winery that is located just up the hill. Gianpiero told a wonderful history of the property (going back more than four centuries), and it was clear a lot of time and love went into the restoration of the property. There was an incredible amount of information provided regarding train schedules, parking, restaurants, etc. that eliminated a lot of guess work and allowed us to enjoy every minute we had in Tuscany. Jane and Gianpiero’s help and knowledge made our stay in Tuscany truly unforgettable. Our only lament was that we had to leave. We look forward to visiting Borgo di Sopra again!

A wonderful 10 days!

The property is even more beautiful than pictured. The landscaping was lovely... and that view! We loved meeting Jane and Gianpiero! They were such wonderful hosts, so warm and welcoming! Jane went grocery shopping for us before we arrived; it was nice to be able to settle in as soon as we got there and not have to worry about shopping. My kids loved playing with their dog and cat. It was an unexpected surprise (they also enjoyed Jane and Gianpiero:)) Pontassieve is just a 5 minute drive from the property, and from there you can easily catch a train to Florence. We enjoyed our stay, and I hope we can return one day!

A hidden gem - beautiful, peaceful, rustic!

If you are dreaming of a beautiful farmhouse in Tuscany, but you want all the modern amenities, this is probably for you. The owners purchased an old watchtower that had seen better days (dates back to the 1500’s), and with amazing vision, investment and attention to detail, created a number of units to meet the needs of different travelers. We stayed in “Antica” which sleeps five very comfortably. It’s in an area that’s not traditionally a tourist area, so you won’t be fighting the crowds. But it is just a short train ride to Firenze, and 1-2 hour drive to places like Siena, Ravenna, San Gimignano, Assisi, etc. The access road goes through fields of grape vines from a nearby winery that you can walk up the hill and visit. Jane was very helpful before and during our stay, making sure we had all the info we needed to find it, and offering restaurant suggestions (and booking tables for us). The terraces are nicely furnished and shaded so you comfortably sit outside, smell the jasmine and enjoy the view whether for your morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. At night, you can hear the nightingales...So peaceful!

Heavenly, welcoming, peaceful and reviving

We were delighted in every way with the stunning location surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, the friendly helpful welcome from the lovely owners with tips on local area and even offering to shop for us in advance if we chose. Thank you so much for our glorious stay, the 3 bed house was so comfortable with delicious views everywhere. Pontesieve is an easy drive down the track and we found it very convenient for Florence but also exploring the Casentino hills, don't miss Poppi! Thank you and we shall return!! Very much recommend.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Thank you also for giving some tips on the surrounding area. The beautiful Casentino area of Tuscany is nearby, and is not well known to tourists.

pour se ressourcer en pleine nature, avec une vue magnifique, à 20 minutes en train de Florence

Posted Aug. 13, 2018 on HomeAway
