The Neighborhood: Centrally-located in the burgeoning Midtown Alley Design District, you'll be minutes away from virtually every major destination in the city. Phenomenal dining and nightlife options within walking distance include world-famous Pappy's Smokehouse, The Southern, Urban Chestnut Brewing, The Fountain on Locust, and many more. Here's a little more about the Midtown Alley Design District from the community's website:
âOriginally called Automobile Row, Midtown Alley was St. Louisâs prime spot to purchase cars between 1911 and 1955. In 2005, the neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. National Park Service. While none of the original automobile businesses remain, the buildingsâmany of which were designed by the famed architect Preston Bradshawâstill stand as a reminder of what first made this neighborhood so special in the city of St. Louis.
Today, Midtown Alley is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in St. Louis. New restaurants such as Brennanâs Work and Leisure, Small Batch, and Egg Midtown are opening up next to older neighborhood staples like The Fountain on Locust and Pappyâs Smokehouse. The heart of our neighborhood, however, can be found in the local St. Louis design businesses that call Midtown Alley their home.
Within the past ten years, our neighborhood has entered into a new renaissance, thanks in no small part to the designers, architects, and artists who saw the potential of this seven-block stretch and breathed new life into the area.
Walking down Locust Street, one can feel the creative energy of the neighborhood. New firms pioneering innovative business models are opening their doors next to ice cream shops, modeling agencies, and local barbecue hangouts. This eclectic mix of old and new has become the defining feature of Midtown Alley. As new businesses pop up and students and long-time residents alike flock to Midtownâs residential lofts, there can be no doubt that Midtown Alley is St. Louisâs creative epicenter. Just as Midtownâs past can be seen in the historic buildings lining the sidewalks, the neighborhoodâs future is found in the creative businesses that brought these structures back to life."

The property is very nice . But the sleeper sofa wasnât great for 2 kids and the bed in the bedroom was a little too solid. I think the âsleeps 4â listing was a little deceiving. Aside from thise minor things the property is nice, felt pretty secured , and well kept. Cool old building retrofit with businesses and loft apartments. I did like the place overall. I think it would be best suited for a business traveler or a couple
The apartment was clean, tidy, and as advertised. Walking distance to SLU and a variety of restaurants. Check-in directions were clear. The master bed was comfortable. The 2nd bed is essentially putting together the ottoman and the couch, and then using the provided linens. It worked OK for our college student and probably would for younger children, but likely not a great solution for two full-sized adults. Kitchen seemed stocked with all the basic necessities, although we used it very minimally. We easily heard the neighboring apartment - not sure if they were just particularly loud on that weekend evening, or if the walls are just that thin. Nonetheless, it was a great space and location for our needs and we would stay here again.
I think this place would be great for a short stay. I was here for a long stay and it was fine. I had issues with things breaking. The dishwasher broke and the gate to the parking lot also broke. The washer was finicky. Sometimes it would just randomly stop in the middle of a load and then my clothes would be sitting in stagnant water. The management company was great to work with and fixed things quickly but the fact that things kept breaking was inconvenient. The location felt safe and had easy access to the highway. The bed was comfortable and the building was pretty quiet most of the time but the shower didnât have great water pressure and didnât get real hot. Like I said, it was fine. Nothing really to complain about just a few things that were annoying to deal with more than anything and I probably would have never noticed if I hadnât stayed so long. My 2 biggest take aways from this stay are the bed was comfortable and I felt safe staying here.
