Not a luxury hotel

Hotel is in need of refurbishment, old and tired. Bathroom needed good clean mould on tiles. Toiletries very basic for a luxury hotel. Pool area basic, pool temp very cold. Breakfast basic, supplement required for some things like eggs Benedict.

Lovely hotel and surroundings, parking was a bit of a distance away. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and service in the bar and restaurant. Staff were great! Would love to go back and stay a little longer !

A lot of money for average accommodation. Shower head would not stay at top of pole kept sliding down ,crack in sink base. Room too hot even with radiator turned off ,opened window to cool down but could hear a generator running day and night.

We had a lovely stay for our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we upgraded our room to Super Deluxe which was very spacious and had a great view of the lake. A card was left in our room wishing us a happy anniversary which was a nice touch. Perfect location, breakfast was good and staff were exceptional. Our room wasn’t ready until 4 which is what the hotel states as check in time, this is a bit later than most hotels but we enjoyed a drink at the bar while we waited. Overall a lovely relaxing stay and we would definitely return.

Lovely stay . The location is beautiful overlooking the lake. The room was big and nice although quite dark as the window was quite small . Spa good but not much choice only 2 steam rooms and swimming pool. Nice seating on the balcony from spa. Breakfast was good although the portion was quite small . That is my husband opinion 😄. The only thing I didn't like was to pay £25 for parking. I think it is quite a lots a specially that the hotel is not cheap . So when you spend £200 for room you not expecting this .

Room had rats in the wall and kept me awake through the night as my wife was terrified . Also hair on the bed when we arrived and dirty sheets . Clearly their housekeeping is poor. Also no night manager or reception after 10 pm only nightporter was available who could not help with anything.

The Old England hotel, Bowness-on-Windermere

The hotel is a lovely hotel in fantastic settings on the edge of Lake Windermere, and the staff were helpful friendly and accommodating. Small gripe is they advertise the hotel as having parking which is always a plus in the Lakes, but they don’t tell you it’s at £25 per night which I thought was a little over priced given what you pay to stay at the hotel. Also be aware of the drinks in the bar as they are well overpriced compared to most places and bars outside the hotel.

Hotel needs an upgrade. Very basic amenities, breakfast disappointing. All round just feels like it’s very expensive for what you get. Staff were all really friendly though.

Clean room, poor parking and EV charging

The room itself was clean and comfortable, which we appreciated. However, there were very few plug sockets available, which made things a little inconvenient. The car parking charge felt excessive, especially given that the parking did not feel as secure as advertised. The EV charging facilities were also disappointing: there were only a few chargers available, and they were difficult to access. On one occasion, an EV charger was blocked by a non-EV vehicle. We reported this to staff, who acknowledged it belonged to a staff member and said it would be moved, but unfortunately nothing was done. Overall, while the room was fine, the parking and EV facilities let the stay down.

Room had a great view.

We had a nice room with a great view on the 2nd floor in the main part of the building. We requested a room change as the extention to the hotel has no lift & we were originally given a room on the lower ground floor. The change was made possible by Aura on reception who was very helpful. The room has a lovely bathroom, comfy bed, iron/ironing board & a fan in the bedroom, there is no air-conditioning or fridge in the room. Unfortunately we found breakfast lacking, the service was good but the continental choice was limited & the cooked breakfast/drinks were lukewarm & average at best. Overall we had a nice stay the hotel is clean with friendly helpful staff but the hotel looks tired & would benefit from replacement carpet's & terrace furniture.

Nothing great except location

Hotel is quite old property. Not worth the price. Location is good. Hotel does not provide any basic stuff like moisturiser, vanity kit etc. did not like it.
