TV didn’t work, and no action was taken by the hotel management to fix it. No hot water to shower on final day. Attempted double charging for breakfasts at checkout. Had to produce banking app to show payment had been made on the day I arrived. No apology given.

We stayed at the New Holgate for one night in mid November. It’s an easy and pleasant walk from York train station, which made arriving and getting around very convenient. We had booked a deluxe double room, which Hotels.com described as having both a separate bathtub and shower, but it only had a shower so I assume we were put in a standard room. As we were only staying for one night, it didn’t feel worth raising a complaint, but it was disappointing given the “deluxe” label. The room itself was reasonably comfortable, but when we returned in the evening the heating had been switched on and the room was unbearably hot—more like a sauna. It made getting any proper sleep very difficult. Breakfast was fine but quite underwhelming. There was no toaster or butter available, the coffee machine was out of order, and the dining room felt extremely cramped. Nothing about it felt particularly special or premium. Overall, it was an ok stay, but certainly not the deluxe experience we had expected based on the booking description. The location is great, but several aspects left us feeling underwhelmed.

Breakfast was lively with a great choice, the bed was really comfortable and the hotel was very clean. There was a problem however with the heating not working in our room which was located in the cellar part of the property.There was also a smell in the bathroom and I think this may have been an issue with getting waste to the main sewer system from that level. Overall we enjoyed our stay but as the temperature gets colder the heating needs to hi on.

Wonderful place to spend a coupe of noght! The staff are all so helpful and friendly! The chef prepares an amazing breakfast each morning, too! The rooms are clean, lovely and comfortable! I highly recommend this BnB. My husband and I had a wonderful two night stay!

A lovely, clean, modern hotel.

The hotel is on a main road and is ideally situated just outside the city centre and around 5 minutes from the racecourse. It’s about £5 in a taxi to both. The room we booked had plenty of room and was very clean and modern. I had looked up the hotel before we booked and found that the car parking is behind the building on Weston Terrace and is charged at £20 per day. The electric chargers were out of service though. We got back to our hotel at night and had to work out how to get in. The front door closes at 10 and there didn’t appear to be any staff working. So we had to go around to the back of the building to get in. When you check in you’re escorted to your room. Don’t think that the receptionist has left her drink in your room! It’s a complimentary water along with a flask of milk for the provided tea and coffee. The Wi-Fi is free and very easy to connect to. Use it to connect the TV too. We slept really well. However, the room was quite warm and the windows only open slightly. Overall this was a really good stay during races week and we would happily come back.

A beautiful hotel close to York city centre

We were so impressed with our beautiful room at this small hotel. The staff were very helpful and there was parking available behind the hotel for an additional fee.
