We go to Charleston often but this was our first time staying at the Ryder. The good: - location is good, not far from the French Quarter - staff was nice - dog friendly - room and bathroom were spacious - the beds were comfy, and the bedding and towels good quality The bad: - paper thin walls, I couldn't sleep the first night because of all the noise coming from different rooms around us, kids running above us, loud group of girls next door, we could hear everything. - the loud techno music coming from the bar/restaurant area in the evening. The music stopped before 10pm but it would have been nice to enjoy the very little time we had in the room in peace - no water bottle, no coffee machine, no fridge in the room - not enough outlets - no proper chair at the desk, my husband had to work on the bed - valet parking at $53 a night! - the floor hadn't been vacuumed and the windows were so dirty that we could hardly see through them - the coffee shop is only open in the morning and, again, there was no coffee machine in the room - there is a $35 daily fee for amenities, but I still don't know what these amenities are. We will probably not stay at the Ryder again because of the lack of amenities and the noise. It's definitely for a younger crowd who want to party by the pool. It is also too expensive for what you get.

The checkin was lovely. We were provided a bev. The fee for parking is expensive, $50 so that hurts. The hallway carpet just looks really dirty. And it was a long walk to our room. Biggest issue we has was the air unit in our room. It was set on 70 and we are cool sleepers. We tried to lower the temp and it would only go down to 67. Not only that, the coolest it got down to was 69. Dirty filter, unit not working properly, I don't know. We alerted the front desk on day one in the morning and were told mechanical would be sent up. When we returned later in the day nothing had happened. We alerted the front desk again later that day and again nothing ever happened. So we gave up on the hotel addressing the issue. We will not return to this hotel. You get what you pay for.

Would stay again

Location was great, close to all the fun stuff without being in the party zone. Rooms were clean and plenty of space for luggage. Loved the steamer for pressing clothes and seriously the best hair dryer ever at a hotel!

Nice place. Maid did not come and clean our room. We complained, but didn’t receive any compensation for it. Parking was $50.00 per day which is crazy price for hotel.

Everything was wonderful, we really enjoyed our stay. Only complaint was that someone brought their dog and it trailed poop two separate times. Because of that the hallway smelled awful.

Lipstick on a Pig

With the exception of Sara, the staff couldn’t have been more unfriendly. We walked in to find urine in the toilet, a public hair on the seat and a filthy counter of what was supposed to be one of their best rooms. As we were winding down for the night, we couldn’t drown out the sound of the deep, loud hum of the building’s air conditioners. No amount of white noise could help. So we packed up and moved to a smaller room. That night, a methane/bbq smell emanated from the vent, the door crack was so wide, we had to stuff towels in the jams. We didn’t need cleaning services until after the second night, but we weren’t ready to leave when the cleaning person knocked at 11. We asked if they could come back in 15 and she looked at me like I had 4 heads. I asked if it was a problem and she rolled her eyes and entered the adjacent room. They never came back to clean the room, EVER. The trash had piled up and we were out of towels so called the last night for some and that woman was very kind. $35/day resort fee when the temps were sub-50 is also exorbitant. Overall not a great experience, but the price was cheaper than a lot of the nearby hotels so in this case the mantra is true…you get what you pay for. Although I would expect cleanliness at the very least. Maybe turn the focus a little more on cleaning the room than on making every square inch of the place Instagram worthy.

Good but a little odd

My stay at the Ryder was nice, though the building layout is a bit odd. First for the good; my room was clean and seemed to have been recently refurnished, the staff was friendly and the location is hard to beat. My room was located on the 4th floor, for which there is no good way to reach from the lobby. The front of the building is only three stories, so to reach the 4th floor one has to either walk all the way around the second of third floor or cut through the garage. I would suggest to hotel management to make improvements to the garage finishes, lighting and signage to make this rout more appealing.
