The Hotel is old and needs revamping. In our room there was no coffee machine, the window blind was missing and it’s hard to fully close the curtain , the bathroom door was hard to move and didn’t close. The wall paper had been repaired in places and was peeling off. The room overall is very dark and dingy. The roof pool is really tiny and over crowded. It’s in an ideal location for Central Park and the reception area / ground floor look nice but overall it’s tired and needs updating.

After reading the reviews, I’m glad I still chose The Empire Hotel. Not only was the decor beautiful and the customer service super friendly and professional, at check-in, at the pool, and on the rooftop lounge, but I was also very satisfied with the rooms. There seem to be a lot of negative comments about the rooms, but ours were very clean, the bathroom was spotless with nice products included, the beds and pillows were super comfy, and the decor felt warm and even a little romantic. The hallways also had a cozy vibe. Some may call it outdated, but it was clean, had character, and made for some great photos. It’s true the rooms aren’t the most spacious, but we were still comfortable and felt really good about our choice. Another bonus, we didn’t realize until we got there that the rooftop was a Gossip Girl filming location. As fans, it was such a cute surprise and made for fun photo moments, plus the rooftop vibe was relaxed, the food was really good, and the decor was just gorgeous. Even more perks: Starbucks right on the corner, and the best little gelato spot tucked right between the hotel and Starbucks, such a win for late-night or post-adventure treats. We’d absolutely stay here again and again, The Empire is officially our NYC go-to. XOXO, a very happy family!

The location was great! The room was ok, beds very hard, paint peeling in the bathroom, sink coming away from the wall, the wallpaper was peeling. The pool closed at 7 👎, rooftop closed at 8pm for under 21. Those 2 things were not mentioned when I booked the hotel. Also, when I booked online it never said that every day we would be charged a different rate.

Despite arriving at 10am, we were not able to check in until 3pm (which we knew ahead of time). We were able to store our luggage safely until then, which I appreciated. We were allowed to venture up to the rooftop to the bar and pool area in the meantime, but one of the elevators was broken and we had to go up the elevator and then up two flights of stairs to get there. On the way there, the entire hotel was HOT. It seemed like the AC was not working. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, as it was a pretty hot day in general. We then were able to check in at 4pm, and when we arrived up at our room, the room itself was 85 degrees!!! We called up front and they said they would send someone to look at the AC. The guy came and told us he would be back, but was not back within 15 minutes. We called to ask the front desk if there was another room available, and they said that the hotel was fully booked (even though during the entire day we came and went through the lobby and hallways and saw hardly any guests). We asked for a full refund, and made reservations elsewhere. After we returned home, we noticed they refunded all but $300 some dollars. I called the hotel to inquire about it, and apparently, the manager that I dealt with on that day was "out for a couple of days" and he was the only one who could authorize this refund. Do not waste your money here. It is dark, dingy, hot and in need of lots of TLC. Their website pics are very misleading.

According to my opinion, First would like to start typing about customer service! All the crew were nice and they had a good manners to attend. Thats is the olny positive thing about the hotel. Second!! We made the reservation through Expedia and said room was with a nice view to the city.. but when we get in the view was facing to a wall from other building , we told them about it and they gave us another room next day!! Beds are to small if you choose junior suite... and definitely is only for one person!! Bathroom shower was not clean at all, curtains at the room didn't work and we couldn't see the view!! Toilet clogged easily, sink also clogged they send a handy man and he fix it quickly! But the bathroon stays with the problem.. Small fridge in room didn't work, the price is s too high for what they advertised in app. The app shows a big pool but when you get there it is a very small pool.

I had a re-occurring problem with my heating and cooling system. No one came to fix it, and it was either an icebox or an oven. They gave me a portable fan. I paid over 1,000 dollars for this.

This was one of the most terrible hotel experiences I have ever had in NYC. The hotel is old I completely understand that. What I don’t understand is allowing the rooms to overflow with water on the floor & giving you two towels & placing one rolled up on the floor when you arrive because they clearly know it occurs. The room keys kept deactivating every time I left my room so it didn’t feel safe, or convienent. Having to go to the front desk 30x to ask for a key to be reactivated is crazy. One of the staff members gave me terrible attitude about it. This hotel is not handicap accessible at all. There’s literal liabilities everywhere with safety. It was cheap & clearly explains why, the room was also way too dark & depressing with 0 natural light. The rooftop is great but pool is terribly small. Don’t think I’d stay again.
