Elk Haven is a collection of 5 cabins on a 7 acre property located in the Black Hills, on the edge of Custer, SD. Our Cabins are ideal for families, reunions, hunters and group gatherings ...as well as a romantic getaway for two. Because our cabins are centrally located to all the area's wonderful Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore attractions, it's only minutes until you're back "Home" to rest and enjoy the natural beauty and serenity right off the deck of your Black Hills cabin.
There is a master bedroom with queen bed and closet, with direct access to a spacious bathroom with a shower. The loft area above is divided for privacy and has 2 queen beds. There is also a living and dining room area. Each cabin has a full kitchen with all the amenities of home which include stove, refrigerator, toaster, coffee pot, blender, dinnerware, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, bakeware; everything down to spice rack, dish/hand soap, hand and paper towels. Each Cabin has it own private deck with outdoor furniture, BBQ with tools, and great views of wildlife! Elk Haven is a great space for a family to spread out and get comfortable and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Black Hills.
Check out our newest property located just 3/4 of a mile up the road past the cabins. The Bluebird's Nest is a brand new garage apartment with a master bedroom and bunk room. It has one Twin XL and one Full size bed in the bunk room, Queen bed in master bedroom, and queen pullout couch in the living room. The kitchen has a full size refridgerator/dishwasher and microwave. Bathroom with double vanity. This location has heat and A/C. Property backs up to Forest Service and view of Crazy Horse. Peaceful and beautiful location.

We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back in the future. Cabin was spacious, clean and if we forgot some thing, the cabin had it waiting for us to use it. Pet friendly was a bonus and will suggest it to others!

Perfect place to stay

The cabin and the property were perfect. Our hosts were very easy to communicate with, and checked in with us often to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. My husband and I were visiting to ride our bicycles on the Mickelson trail with a group of friends who stayed in nearby hotels. They wished they had known about Elk Haven Cabins because they would have chosen the cabins instead of a hotel room! Thank you very much Kris and Beth. We hope to return!

The cabin was great but I found out at our age we need air conditioning. The fans did not do the job. On days when it was a bit cooler it was quite comfortable. The managers did a terrific job taking care of the cabin and the outside area. The surrounding area was beautiful and a nice distance from Custer. We saw young fawns almost every day. I appreciate the managers for their consideration of their guests.

Hubby and i stayed in cabin #1 at Elk Haven cabins for a week and found it to be comfortable and clean with all amenities needed. The only thing that would make it absolutely perfect would be laundry facilities, but that was such a small thing for us that it didn't detract at all. There were lots of brochures and info provided on things to see and do. The full kitchen was handy for making breakfast. We only used the downstairs bedroom, but that bed was comfy and we slept well. it was so quiet and There were so many stars at night, we actually found the Milky Way. we saw lots of deer and wild turkeys along the road, especially around dusk and early in the morning. It was just a lovely place to stay for all our activities.

This cabin was so centrally located to everything. Tucked away not far off the main road, but far enough that we were able to enjoy nature. Very relaxing and plenty of great hiking and lakes to enjoy.

Black Hills

Just outside the city of Custer, we were able to get in all Black Hills attractions. The property is centrally located in the Black Hills. Had great host, that made sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend a 4-6 day stay
