Country Cabin - Hamurana Farm Retreat, Rotorua
Summary:
A modern black-and-cedar cabin set on a working farm in peaceful Hamurana, on the northern shore of Lake Rotorua. Purpose-built for two, with a queen bed, full kitchenette, heat pump and a private timber deck looking out over green paddocks - and friendly farm neighbours (pigs, calves and a Kunekune) grazing just beyond the fence. Minutes from Hamurana Springs and the lake, a short drive from Rotorua's geothermal parks, redwoods and Maori cultural experiences. The peace and birdsong of rural NZ.
The Space:
Step inside and the cabin opens up into a single bright space designed for two. A comfortable queen bed sits to one side, a two-seater leather sofa and flat-screen TV to the other, and large sliding glass doors open straight onto the private timber deck. Herringbone timber floors run through the open-plan layout, with white walls, dark accents and a heat pump for year-round comfort. The cast-iron bistro chairs and bench on the deck are made for slow mornings with a coffee and the paddocks for a view.
The kitchenette is fully self-contained, with a two-burner ceramic cooktop, single sink, mini fridge, microwave and the cookware, crockery and cutlery you'd want for a few days of cooking in.
The modern bathroom has a curved glass shower with rain head, white vanity and round mirror.
Outside, the cabin sits in a gravel courtyard with native plantings and classic black timber post-and-rail fencing. Beyond the fence, rolling green pasture climbs a hill, and our resident farm animals - Kunekune pigs, a calf and a curious goat - roam the land. You're welcome to walk the boundary, say hello, and enjoy genuine New Zealand farm life from a respectful distance.
Guest Access:
You have the whole cabin and the private timber deck to yourself. Off-street parking is on the gravel drive directly in front of the cabin, just a couple of metres from the door.
The Neighborhood:
Hamurana is a quiet farming village on the northern shore of Lake Rotorua, one of the most peaceful corners of the region. The Hamurana Springs Recreation Reserve is just up the road, with one of New Zealand's largest natural springs, a grove of towering California redwoods and gentle walking tracks (around 10 minutes drive). The shoreline of Lake Rotorua is close by for lake views, summer swims and quiet sunsets.
Ngongotaha village is about 10 minutes south, with a small grocery store, cafes and takeaways for everyday essentials. Okere Falls Store, a beloved local cafe with a craft beer garden, is a short drive in the other direction. The wider area is classic Bay of Plenty farming country, all rolling green hills, grazing stock and clean country air.
Getting Around:
A car makes the most of the area. Rotorua's city centre is around 15 minutes south, with Eat Streat for restaurants, the geothermal parks (Te Puia, Whakarewarewa), the Redwoods Treewalk, Skyline gondola, Polynesian Spa and Maori cultural experiences all within easy reach. Hobbiton is about 1 hour drive, and the beaches of Tauranga and Mt Maunganui around 50 minutes by road. Off-street parking is available on-site.
Interaction with Guests:
We're available by phone, text or email during your stay, and happy to pop in for anything you need. Local recommendations on cafes, walks and the best geothermal spots are always on offer.
