What a hidden gem! Beautiful hotel in a great location - opposite Bitexo Tower, 2 minute walk from main street, surrounded by good restaurants. Breakfast & afternoon tea were varied, tasty & freshly cooked. The stand out of this hotel though has to be the staff & management, they were faultless. They picked up from my partners passport that it was his birthday & presented him with a birthday cake at breakfast. They hand delivered a white rose to our room for me. They always had a smile & a hello for us. Absolute gems!

Nice stay in a good location

Quaint plantation style hotel within walking distance to popular sites. Friendly staff who are very accommodating. Room was good size with a nice sitting area. The only reason for my 4 out of 5 rating is that the room had an odor to it, the mattress was too hard/firm, and there was no standup shower, so we had to sit in the tub with a handheld shower head. I should have paid closer attention to the room details when I booked it. Overall positive experience though, and their breakfast was fantastic.

I stayed here with my toddler and elderly mother and would recommend it. The staff were very lovely (especially Richard who was always very sweet with my toddler), the room excellent, the breakfast buffet had a nice variety and the location was safe and convenient for tourist attractions as well as shopping. The hotel is well kept and it was a pleasure to come back to its beautiful decor after exploring the hot and humid streets of HCM.

Excellent location within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The room was quiet even with the noise from the street. The AC worked well even on a hot and humid day. The buffet breakfast was excellent with choices Vietnamese and western foods. Highlight was the made to order eggs and pho. However we had some problems with the design of the shower as water ran outside the tub onto the bathroom floor and the side of the tub. Hopefully this can be remedied with better caulking and sealants.

The hotel is quite old and rundown and nothing like the photos. The wooden door in the room is worn off and the electric lock to the room door is so old that the battery cover keeps falling off when we open and close the room door. The housekeeping staff didn’t clean up the room even though we put the sign on the door to make the room since 8am. We came back to the room after 2pm and the room is still not cleaned. Location is convenient.

Charming French Colonial Hotel

Au Lac Charner hotel is a gem of a find right in the heart of bustling Saigon. This French colonial hotel has beautiful decor and has maintained its traditional feel. It is elegant with its understated colours and is bright. There is some quirkiness too. Our room has a Jaccuzzi-style bath in the bedroom and the shower is on the open-air balcony. Happily there are blinds to block prying eyes or 'the missus' would have had kittens. The hotel is clean and we loved that they offered free afternoon tea every day. It was always welcome to refresh us from the intense heat of the city. What makes Au Lac Charner stand out is its people. The staff are smiling, helpful, informative and willing. The star of the show, however, was Robert who checked us in at reception and whom we saw in several supervisory roles throughout our four-day stay. He always remembered our names, joked with us and was a mine of information. He guided us on places to eat, where to buy Vietnamese gifts (not tacky souvenirs) and helped us when we needed transportation. This is my sixth time to stay in hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and whilst they have all been good, it is Au Lac Charner which stands out as the best. We will be back, of that I am certain.
