MORE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD & HUDSON: Union Street, and my block in particular, has the lovely settled energy of an older neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful here, yet only a minute's walk from the middle of Warren Street, Hudson's happening main drag with its varied restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, boutiques, and all manner of fashions - antique and au courant - for home and humans.
Hudson is a very small city, and you can explore all of it easily on foot. Warren Street, Hudson's main artery, is a minute's leisurely stroll from the house, and there is street parking all around. The Catskills, Frederick Church's Olana and Hudson River beaches â to name just three of the Hudson Valley's memorable offerings â are all a 10- or 15-minute drive, and more easily accessed by car.
Hudson is about 120 miles from New York City, a two-hour train ride from Penn Station, and 48 miles from Albany International Airport (ALB). Although you can walk anywhere in town from the house, the closest supermarkets, movie theaters and fast food are located in strip malls 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 miles away (thus preserving Hudson's remarkable architectural continuity). There are taxis, a car rental agency, and two places to rent bicycles (one of which also rents skis and kayaks) in town.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: PLEASE TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF UPON ENTERING THE HOUSE. Cozy house socks will be provided, with many thanks from your House Fairy.
PET POLICY: Unfortunately, although I love them more than life, I am unable to accept pets as guests.
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN: I totally understand. I ask only that you tell me if something has been broken, stained or otherwise damaged. I will either thank you for letting me know and wave it off as a cost of doing business, or we can work out some reasonable solution that preserves the sacrosanct bonds of candor and respect between hostess and guests.
THERE WILL BE A $25 FEE for lost keys or dirty dishes left in the kitchen.
EXTENDED STAYS: Biweekly cleanings will be included in the bill. You may also arrange for more frequent cleanings. I am happy to help schedule those upon request.
LEGAL STUFF: Please note that 5% of the cost of your rental goes to the City of Hudson as a lodging tax. This property is registered with the City of Hudson, License No. 481.
If I could give Ellen 6 out of 5 stars, I would. She is the definition of a super hostess. She was kind and welcoming beyond belief, gave us a tour, provided us with anything we could possibly need and more. The place was immaculate and charming. The world needs more hostesses like Ellen. She and her place are a delight.
In addition to all that is obvious from the property's profile and my 5 star reviews thereof, I was particularly impressed by how clean the property was. My daughters and I have asthma and one of them and I have multiple, environmental allergies. The absence of dust and toxic laundry product off-gassing in this property was an enormous relief, as was the realization that even the blankets, bed covers and pillows were very clean. Such environmental and health-related details like these take much of the stress out of not sleeping in one's own bed.
Our stay at Bohemian Rhapsody was fabulous. We were 4 women friends who love to do occasional weekends together. The apartment was roomy, clean, and comfortable. Each of us had our own room (I loved sleeping in the cozy little library off of the living room). Every one commented how comfort the three beds were. You could not ask for a better walking location to Warren Street in Hudson. Just steps away from the main street of town. Ellen was a fabulous host. Prior to our stay, we had all the information of what sites to see-where to hike, options of where to eat and shop. Each of us plan to bring our partners to Hudson and Bohemian Rhapsody in the near future!
Ellen was super sweet and showed us everything we needed for our stay. She also gave us lots of information about the town⊠where to eat, things to see and do. Great Host!!
I booked this property for a girls trip to Hudson. Prior to our visit, Ellen provided a detailed outline of recommendations ranging from tours, to restaurants, to the best places to go for a swim. It really helped in our planning as this was our first time to the town.
Upon arrival, she showed us around the property which is stunning. Every piece of artwork has a story and the backyard garden had hummingbirds to welcome us! The rooms themselves were spacious and was more than enough space for 3 women. The kitchen had every gadget and pot/pan you would need to cook a feast with dishes to spare. The bathroom had a lovely tub/shower with the softest towels, and plenty of shampoo, conditioner, and soaps. Iâve stayed in other VRBOs which are so minimally stocked, but not this place. She really went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Additionally, the home was spotless. The beds were very comfortable with real furniture, not the cheap IKEA furniture some short term rentals will offer.
The photos do show the beauty of the place, but really the amenities and high quality comfort of the furniture ensured a great stay.
And last but not least, itâs a block away from the main shopping/restaurant area- Warren Street. So once you park your car, you wonât need it again until youâre ready to head home. You can easily walk to all the best spots in town.
It was a great time and for anyone thinking about where to stay in HudsonâŠ.. go visit Ellen and this beautiful home. You wonât be disappointed!
What a delight. If you are drawn to the photos...you will love this beautiful home. Impeccably clean. Ellen was completely available at all times. The most kind intelligent host I've yet to meet. It is walking distance from all fun restaurants, bars, shopping. Lovely neighborhood. Plan to go back ,seasonally, from now on . Very relaxing and delightful re-set for me and my husband. Thank you, wonderful Ellen. Suzanne and Greg Kraus/Wrobel
We had a wonderful experience staying at Ellenâs lovely home. She met us at the door and welcomed us with a tour of the home and great information about Hudson. The home is spotless with plenty of fluffy white towels and literally everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Such a lovely experience!
My friend and I reserved a weekend in November for a weekend getaway to catch up on some reading and writing. We had to reschedule for personal reasons and Ellen was super accommodating, walking us through the process of re-booking. We ended up staying at Ellen's property in late February and it couldn't have been better! Ellen met me and explained the neighborhood, the apartment and had useful suggestions about restaurants and grocery stores. The apartment was clean and cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen. I am sorry that we didn't plan to cook that much that weekend and will definitely do that when I return!
My friend and I did not have a car and had planned to stick close to the town. There was still plenty for us to do and amazing restaurants for each evening. I imagine if you had a car you could explore the surrounding area a bit more. But getting to/from the Amtrak station was an easy walk even with light luggage.
All in all the apartment in Hudson was perfect and Ellen was an amazing host! I am definitely heading back!
Ellen is a great host. She gave us a great tour and also had a lot of nice recommendations. I highly recommend the Blue Skies to anyone visiting Hudson. Or maybe I shouldn't, so that we can have it all to ourselves. Seriously a great place.
This property is completely charming, bright, airy, and beautifully furnished. It is kept in immaculate condition by the nice lady who owns it, and is filled with an eclectic assortment of art, antiques, and other cool stuff. Ellen couldn't be nicer. It was a great location close to everything, but a little off the busy main drag in Hudson. I give it a solid 5 gold stars.
Ellen is awesome. She was flexible on our arrival time and walked us through the lovely apartment. It is a perfect set up in a great location. We were more than comfortable with our one year old daughter and will definitely be back again.
