Check in was difficult because there are 4 different motels in a row that all check in at the Thunderbird (Starlight motel, Budget motel, Great Lakes motel, as well as Thunderbird) therefore, the staff has very little time to deal with problems. Our room had a broken lamp shade, a plug in that was half hanging out of the wall—I could have dealt with these, but the worst thing was there was a baseboard heater that was throwing out heat and could not be turned off. It was 85 degrees outside, and the room was unbearable. When i complained, the desk clerk said, “oh, that happens sometimes “
I said that we wouldn’t be able to sleep, and please could we have another room? He said they were full, the best they could do was call a maintenance man, but he couldn’t get there until after 11pm.
Long story short, we were so desperate to get some sleep that we ended up paying $160 more for a room that was cool. It was a king, where our original room was a queen, but what a racket! I was extremely disappointed. They said because I had booked through Expedia they couldn’t give a refund, I don’t know if it’s true,
