Michigamme River Cabin Paradise
We experienced an awesome 8 night stay at this cabin, which is quite cozy and had everything we needed. The location is superb, on the Michigamme River, and with many small, beautiful lakes within a very short drive. We fished as much as possible during the week, and host Ken was most gracious with recommendations and maps to various nearby lakes and rivers for us to try. We were able to catch pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and bluegill. We brought our own kayaks, but as noted, there are kayaks available at the cabin for use on the river – we would highly recommend a float, with the current being calm enough to paddle up or down river with ease. The wildlife in and around the property is amazing, including those we saw (Ravens, Common Loons and many other birds, bobcat, deer, beaver, etc.) and heard (wolves, fox, Barred Owls, Ruffed Grouse, Whip-poor-will, Common Loons, etc.). Although we had hoped to see wolves, bear, and/or moose, it didn’t happen this trip, but we know that they are in the area. This cabin is in a great location to use as a base camp for exploring anything in the western UP. Internet access was a challenge at times, but with a little patience and/or a short walk outside, we could connect as needed. We cannot wait to come back again. Thank you to Ken and Sara for being the best hosts we have experienced to date. If you like wild things and being away from it all, rent this cabin and you will not be disappointed!

Wonderful little cabin right on the Michigamme river
This is a wonderful, secluded, private little cabin right on the Michigamme river in the west side of Michigan's U.P. Cabin is clean and comfortable and exceptionally well equipped with a fire pit, a pellet smoker, and sitting area overlooking the river. The kitchen has everything you need, and the water is good to drink so no need to lug it with you. The area around the cabin is stunning, with mature trees providing shade following a clear area along the river offering a place to play or fish the river. Saw lots of animal tracks/scat including bear/deer/turkey. Saw lots of deer/turkey in the area. We didn't have time to fish, but the river was calling us! Ken and Sara quickly responded to any inquiries. Location is about 30 minutes from Ishpeming where you can find grocery stores; about 50 minutes to Marquette; about 90 minutes to Munising and the start of Pictured Rocks National Shoreline; and about 90 minutes to Escanaba which has a great public beach on Lake Michigan. There are many close-by water-falls, lakes for fishing/kayaking, and trails for hiking. We couldn't possibly have explored them all! Couple of things to be aware of. -The cabin is only 300 feet from the highway. So at 0530 every morning you start hearing the big trucks coming down the hill, over the bridge, and back up the hill. NBD if you are an early riser, but it could be a problem (and was for us as we had several late nights after making lengthy drives to the east side of the UP (Mackinaw

River cabin
My wife and I really enjoyed our trip to Republic the fish weren’t biting while we were there so we did a lot of exploring some other great UP spots. Location was nice for going to Marquette or Iron Mountain and Crystal Falls. Kens garden was a nice bonus if you’re into that kinda stuff, I really liked it. Definitely would stay again.
