Great stay in a quiet spot. We loved it and the you canât ask for better hosts.
For a great spot to eat try this store that serves great food, Cool Springs Park.
Great place to stay with nice owners. Came during an off-season and the owner was very accommodating. We stayed in room #1 the bed was comfortable, essential toiletries were provided, and everything was clean. Convenient spot for multiple hiking trails and parks. I would stay here again if in the area.
If you like old style charm, you will love this place. The town is extremely quiet, so we arrived with a personal note on the note addressed to us, front door unlocked, and key in the door of our room. It was an early century 3 story house so clean and comfortable, we felt very cozy and safe. The proprietor has everything ready for you and has a phone number to call if any questions or issues. The table is set with a good continental breakfast, no charge, coffee and juices. This was set up each morning. We enjoyed our stay, very reasonable, and comfortable.
I was a bit hesitant when I arrived at the age of the house, itâs old. But the rooms are clean& the beds were very comfortable. We did tear the continental breakfast because it was all package muffins & high carb choices.
Our family had a two night stay. In the beginning we were surprised at how old and antique feeling the lodge had. But we had a very comfortable stay. My 12 yrs old said the hotel bed is the most comfortable one he ever had in a hotel. The help-yourself style breakfast has many thoughtful choices. People in this little town are very friendly and the scenery nearby is so beautiful and peaceful.
No one greeted us and the front door was locked. We had to call and then Tim greeted us and was very nice. The breakfast was terrible. The muffins were in a package dated two weeks prior. Two of the three mills in the frig were outdated. Most of the food in the frig was outdated. There were a few oranges on the breakfast table. We didnât see any other guests even though Tim said the place was booked.
The rooms were lovely as was the overall establishment decor.
The internet wasnât very good but weâre finding that typical in West Virginia this far.
Very clean, right beside river, quiet, and mattress was a 10/10 comfortable. Room even came with soaps, tooth brushes/paste, and lotions, everything you'd ever need for a nice trip.
The only thing I would have added to room would be a small personal refrigerator for left over foods or deli meat to make sandwiches or food. Eating out constantly gets expensive.
The River House Lodge is charming, unique, and very comfortable! The owner was also wonderfully accommodating of my late arrival. Would love to stay there again.
Loved the historic nature of the property. Antique items and original woodworking etc made it a very unique location. The pictures are a bit deceiving and make this look like a large mountain lodge (one even with a pool, though that is not listed as an amenity) but it is just a three story home. But that was fine, the only major issue was that they used window AC to cool the rooms. Our two rooms were very hot and the window ACs took a long time to make the temperature bearable. It did cool off nicely around 2am. Breakfast wasnât much, not many options and nothing of a low carb variety. Wasnât too concerned about until we realized there was literally no where to get anything to eat between the lodge and Camp Dawson. (Should have ate the muffin!) canât really speak to the friendliness of the staff as I never met any during my entire stay (we had a late check in) But we had everything we needed so I have no complaints (except there was no hair dryer, it had one listed so my wife didnât bring hers.) Itâs no Ritz Carleton so donât go expecting that, but it is a very neat place that you will remember years down the road (unlike a Comfort Inn!)
This quaint little town is perfectly quiet. If youâre looking to get away from everything. Only drawback is no cellular service but thatâs most of the area. The best b&b Iâve ever seen.
Actually didn't see anyone until we were loading our car !!! Tim came out, and gave us a little history on the place. Comfortable Bed, and excellent Water Pressure.
