We had to make an unexpected stopover in Birmingham due to the snow and booked in 30 mins before arrival. Excellent and super friendly staff who went above and beyond all expectations. Room was great, bed was super and good quality sheets. All was really clean. Would definitely think about stopping overnight here rather than getting a cab back home in the future as a much cheaper option.

First night the sofa bed mattress was flimsy and the springs were damaging my sons back- I asked for a change or for a solution - staff gave a mattress topper. This was not thick at all! I asked again for a different mattress instead they gave another duvet to use instead for thickness. I was told on first day to put housekeeping sign on door if want room cleaned. So I did this. The next day the housekeeper knocked on to ask to clean room I said yes do later in evening when I go out.i come back and the room was still a mess not cleaned at all! - I go to reception asking why -they said they don't clean rooms for stay overs- this was not told or communicated in emails as online it says daily housekeeping at this hotel - why would I stay in a dirty room for 3 nights of my stay when I could've just stayed at home and not expected it to be cleaned like a hotel!- when I approached the reception staff the woman staff with the braces was rude and talking to her staff member who I had asked question to and then he was relaying it back to me, which was confusing and when I said to her that's not what I said she stopped me and said I am speaking to my staff member - I said yes but it's Infront of me. This was unprofessional and rude. She then offered change of towels only. On the last day we had no toilet paper also. Further for 2 days at breakfast I found hair in the scrambled eggs from the buffet station but I did not make a scene of this however in hindsight I should've!
On the 19th floor and had springy mattress

Check in was smooth. The thermostat in the room was broken. It's winter. It was freezing cold in the room. We informed reception and the receptionist said he'd sort it. That was 7pm. 10pm we went downstairs and he said he'd have someone look at it. We then went out and can back at 2am and the issue was not sorted. Portable heater not offered. We raised the issue to Chico - he was great. Gave us a new room for disabled guests but we didn't mind as long as it was warm. Thanks Chico. The room was not better however. Very small window and the heating took ages to get going. There was incredible dust from the air conditioner. Caused us to cough etc. It was unpleasant. Very disappointed in the Holiday Inn here. At checkout they asked about our stay and we explained. The manager on the day stated she'd give us a partial refund. Thank you. You also get a discount for the carpark if you park at B4 around the corner.
