A lovely boutique hotel

This is a lovely boutique hotel close to many shops and restaurants. The room is very nicely appointed with a very comfortable bed. The rooftop pool is good for doing laps in the morning. Buffet breakfast is decent and tasty. Complimentary afternoon tea on the 10th floor is really a very nice touch. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel if you're visiting HCMC.

Enjoyed our stay at Au Lac for 3 nights. The staff is super nice and awesome. They had a nice treat for my son for his birthday. The supervisor is sweet, she gave us a free upgraded room which was spacious and clean. The location is convenient to walk around district 1. We will absolutely come back here again.

Setting was excellent, our room and the facilities were excellent as was the breakfast and staff who were very welcoming and friendly. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to Ho Chi Minh for travel and we will definitely stay here again.

The hotel is sweet. Decor is white washed French provincial furniture. The strange bit is they have most of their showers on the balcony- shower curtain and all. It is not an outside shower to use after pool use. It is the main shower. I booked the Bonard Junior Suite and although photos indicated bath was in the living room, photos also indicated a shower in the bathroom and one on balcony. There was only a shower on the balcony. As I felt uncomfortable showering on the balcony, I asked for a room change, which they did straight away, giving me a choice of rooms. Service was amazing. This shower issue might not bother other people- location of hotel means there’s not much of a view on the balcony- overlooking old, run down buildings on the other side of the road (above the shops) and there are pull down screens, curtain meaning the shower is private, but it just came to me as a bit of a shock. Apart from that, it was a really clean, cute hotel. Beds comfortable. Pool and bar area great. Breakfast was good. Staff really amazing. Location perfect. Walking distance to everything. Great shops and restaurants on the street. When I refer to the view, it’s a quaint, narrow street, so your not seeing the shops, just the run down buildings above. However, this means the street is quiet. Perfect location in the middle of everything without the noise. Photos are of new room. Toilet very cool. Literally all the swings, bells and whistles!! I’m from NZ, so not the usual.

Summary: Spend an extra $30 a day to stay at the Caravelle Hotel. With better international management, higher quality bedding, luxurious appointments and sound-proof windows, you'll sleep a lot better. The Good Stuff: Large size room for the downtown District 1 area. Reasonable price for a newly refurbished hotel in a great area. Nice boutique look and feel with a good size shower, separate toilet room, enough counter room and it's clean. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating. The rooftop pool is sufficient. The Bad Stuff: The hotel GM should be replaced with someone who has ran international hotels before. At 7a on Friday, the hotel started construction to replace an aging floor on the 10th level, which could be heard down through the ground floor. The next day there were fire alarm tests in the morning around 8a, and on Sunday they started more construction, although this time at 8a. Being that there was a festival with concerts going on until 3a nearby, getting woken up that early was really not necessary. A decent GM would have started the construction or tests in the afternoon when most people are out and about. Having sound-insulating windows would help to reduce the noise from the nearby walking street and bars. The bathtub looks nice, but is pretty useless as the rusty water filling it up looks pretty disgusting. Also, not a big deal, but the room safe didn't work and forget about the breakfast. Just eat somewhere else. There are many good choices nearby.

This hotel was wonderful! Absolutely beautiful hotel with kind, helpful staff and amazing breakfast buffet! We were sad the one day we had to miss breakfast during our stay! We were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go, very walkable area.
