Stayed for one night, and I’m so glad it wasn't any longer. The room was filthy; it felt like the only things cleaned prior to our arrival were the bedsheets. ​We brought our own food, but the kitchen situation was a disaster. The plates and cutlery were dirty with old food remnants. We had to wash everything before we could use it. Even then, there were only two dinner plates for four people; the other two were little side plates, barely big enough for a piece of toast, which made serving dinner a challenge. The inside of the microwave was dirty and the kettle was also too dirty to use, so we couldn't even make a cuppa. ​To top it off, an earwig fell from the light fixture directly onto the bed while we were sitting there. ​For a family, the setup was poor. The bunk beds felt extremely flimsy and unsafe for our teenagers; they might be okay for children under 10. Despite booking for four people, we were only provided with two towels. The ultimate proof of the grime was my kids' new white socks. After walking around the room for a short time, the soles were dark brown with dirt and dust. ​Thankfully we were exhausted enough after 12 hours of driving to be able to get a good night's sleep as the bed and pillows were comfy. ​Unfortunately, because it’s peak season, everything else was booked out and this was our only option. Lesson learnt: book something nice well in advance next time!

The staff are wonderful, clearly trying to make the best of what they have to work with. The bed was clean. The rest was not great. The common access areas to the rooms need a good pressure clean. They are filthy. Having said that, inside the pub part was clean and tidy. The menu isn’t extensive, but what food we had was okay. Half a lettuce leaf and maybe a wedge of tomato (?????) might have complimented the fish and chips - it needed all the help it could get…. We stayed there a few years ago and it was great. Clearly who ever owns it now has no idea what they’re doing. Such a shame. I can’t paise the staff enough though. They were terrific.

The hotel staff and service in the pub was good. Food was terrible, and the rooms , stairwell and surrounds were filthy. Complimentary tea and coffee, but no cups. Such a shame.
