In the centre of Bologna with prestigious furniture and antique pieces of art
Our apartment is located in the wonderful Piazza Aldrovandi. It is the perfect solution for living and discovering Bologna away from conventional tourism, in the most authentic way. The familiar history of the owners permeates every corner of this apartment with several pieces of original antique furniture and paintings dating back to Renaissance or Baroque periods such as the two large canvases between the main windows of the living room and the two portraits which reveals the influence of some Flemish painter. Over the fireplace you will enjoy a splendid terracotta tondo by the school of Della Robbia with its typical tinted enamel glazes. At the sides two wooden candleholders give a touch of Roman Baroque. The delicate ceramic framework of the fireplace gives visual force at its sides to a couple of wonderful pieces of furniture: a table console dating back to 1700 and a chest of drawers by early 1800. In the same living room you will enjoy also other important antique pieces of furniture as another chest of drawers, a perfectly preserved Renaissance chest, a slant-front desk whose panel, when closed, conceals a network of cubbies and drawers used for organizing paperwork, a round table with six chairs, various armchairs in front of the fireplace. Two canvases in the Jackson Pollock style, of the 1960s create a sort of contrast between different cultural epochs. In the living room there is no more present the Steinbeck piano shown in the photos of this advertisement. Into the "studio" room you can rest on an original Wassilyâs chair (1925) by the German designer and architect Marcel Breuer. The design reflects the principles of the Bauhaus school where Breuer worked in his early years. This masterpiece was the first designed piece of furniture to incorporate the leather with tubular steel. There is also an original desk as well as a bed manufactured in the late 1950s by Gavina Group. After the War years, Dino Gavina picked up the license for many design items and he got to know the owners of the apartment. The flat has so a wide living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, one bedroom with a double bed and a studio furnished with desk and two single beds. The flat is so able to accommodate up to 5 people. Mind that the total price in this website does not include the local tourist tax (amount depends by the period of the year, the number in party, the number of day (the tourist tax is applied only on the first five days). Regular receipt will be released upon payment on arrival.
This is a wonderful apartment with an elevator. The location is amazing, with great restaurants right across the street! The host is friendly and accommodating. We can not wait for our third trip to this lovely apartment!
The good: It is indeed a spacious and nice apartment with a lot of antiques to admire, and very well located. The bad: BEWARE: The listing mentions parking available but this is not the case, there is no parking available for visitors, nor ZTL permits. Considering temporary permits cost 6 per day, and parking is a little fortune overnight (45 inside ztl about 10m walk, 25 at the train station about 20m walk) it will cost you much more than you expect to pay and also walk. The floor was also dirty with a LOT of white hair, so improving the cleaning would be appreciated (you canât see it because of the beautiful flooring, but if you put your feet on the floor or have a toddler with you, you will quickly notice it).
Despite the late June heatwave, we had a wonderful week in Bologna, and were delighted with our accommodation - Paolo's apartment is spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and perfectly located, just a short walk from the very centre. As other reviewers have commented, Piazza Aldrovandi gets busy at night, but for us this was one of the big attractions - you really feel immersed in the life of the city. I can't quite understand why some people have complained about the noise. The living room overlooks the piazza, but the main bedroom is on the other side of the apartment and though the piazza was swarming with students into the early hours of the morning, and we had to keep a window open in living room because of the heat, the noise didn't bother us at all. And Paolo could not have been more helpful. We've been to Bologna many times, and I'm sure we'll be returning. This apartment will be our first choice.
Our college-aged choristers were stunned at the beautiful rooms and furnishings of La Symphonia, your apartment is aptly named! ... I rather expected we would each be very pleased and we are! Carlotta was so gracious; she actually welcomed us from the living room window when we arrived. Of course the weather today after the rain, is perfect: but cross-ventilation assisted by fans everywhere will be sufficient, and reminds me of childhood summers. Ten-foot ceilings, large windows, a taxi stand out front, two nearby grocers, a pharmacy and trattoria complete the amenities!
We stayed in this apartment for 2 months and it was a true delight. First off as others have mentioned, it is huge! We really settled in and felt right at home with everything we needed. The kitchen is very well equipped with all you will need to cook any meals you wish. Towards the end of our stay the refrigerator stopped working and Paulo had a new refrigerator installed very quickly. The living room is so nicely decorated we loved spending time enjoying a glass of wine and reading in the evenings. Very comfortable bed in the back large bedroom. Lots of hot water and excellent pressure, even on the third floor. Thereâs been comments on the noise from the plaza; I really think this is just what you are used to. Yes, there is conversation floating up and the clink of glasses or bottles, but it isnât out of control. But I will temper that, we closed the windows at night when we went to bed and we slept in the back room. If it was really hot and you needed to leave the windows open or if the front bedroom was needed I think it would be annoyingly loud. But we personally never had an issue. The location canât be beat. Wonderful cafe across the street for morning pastries and coffee, and many little street stands for a quick lunch or Appertivos. We very much enjoyed the immediate neighborhood as much as the apartment. I can not express how delightful this place was, and how responsive Paulo was to any issue. I would return with no hesitation.
The property is really unique and spacious. Very close to everything. But, if it's over 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the apartment is sweltering, even with the windows open. The square below is very loud all night with college students so sleeping with the windows open is useless. The fans do not do much to cool things down. We did not sleep while staying there and left.a day early because it.was going to be 90 degrees outside. I became ill.from the heat. This apartment should not be rented after May until fall.
My wife and i really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It felt like a much-loved home. It was a little dated in some respects (bathroom and kitchen) but this added to its natural charm for us. Also, while there was noise into some rooms from the busy piazza outside, it offered a sense of vibrancy to our stay, and connection to Bologna. We especially loved the size of the apartment, perfect for a longer stay of 16 nights. We hope to return as soon as possible. Thank you!
This apartment is magical, felt like stepping back in time with everything dating back to the 60s and earlier. Super spacious. So many amazing antiques and art made by the previous owners so it felt like being in another world. The location is brilliant, great bars and restaurants in the Piazza it's located in. You can also be right in the centre of town in about 8 mins walk, walking everywhere is a dream. Piazza can get noisy at the weekends (nothing earplugs wont fix if you are a light sleeper) but small trade off for the amazing location and one of kind apartment. Thank you for sharing this very special space with us.
This apartment is darling. The furnishings and art are lovely. However, the tiny kitchen isn't well stocked but rather a hodge podge of utensils that aren't organized very well. and only two wine glasses - really??? Additionally, this area is very noisy at night so if you need to sleep, this isn't the apartment for you. people would hang out right in front of the building until very (like 3:30 am) singing and yelling at the top of their lungs. There was also an issue with the front door to the building that was never resolved and because of that, we didn't feel very safe, especially with all of those people out front drinking until late.
