Not sure why this hotel has received so many good reviews. The hotel is full of historical charm that is for sure but after we went to our room we found the bed sheet has a huge brownish stain on it. We requested the service desk to change it but they said it was too late (10pm) and all the stuff has left. So the lady gave us the new bed sheet and we put it on top of the bed. Then later we found the blanket sheet also has a lot of visible stains, and then there are also a bunch of holes on it as well, the edges of the blanket sheet cover was yellowish brown color, there is a hygiene concerns of this hotel.The fridge when open has light, but it does not work. I put a bottle of water in it and the next morning is is still at room temperature. We checked out one day earlier despite that we paid for two days stay as we were not comfortable to stay due to the hygiene concerns.

Great location, within easy walking distance to Armenian Street and Komtar, and easy for getting Grabs to anywhere else. Check in was easy and welcoming, we did have to pay 6MYR for room tax and have a 200MYR deposit charge on our card. We also got complimentary afternoon tea vouchers for each day of our stay. It was a nice break from sightseeing to get free tea, coffee and snacks from 3-5pm. Hotel and rooms are a bit dated but that is part of the charm.

Good breakfast and coffee, very friendly staff. A well kept clean spacious room, with a great sized bed, comfy pillows and excellent bedding. Quiet air conditioning and two ceiling fans. Powerful shower. Good location. I'm a light sleeper and would recommend earplugs as there is some road and mosque noise or from Majestic if an event is on. The atrium area is a lovely peaceful retreat, comfy seating.

It’s one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at. It reminds us the colonial era yet the facilities are modern. The staff are friendly and always available to help. There are lots of food choices within a 5-10 walk from the hotel. Will definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay at Areca, we had a room on the ground floor and it was sheer luxury, spacious, beautiful tiles on the floor, high ceiling, lovely period furniture, fans and air conditioner and a shower that was truly magnificent. We loved the afternoon teas and all the delights that were served. Your staff are extremely polite and courteous. We stayed for a week and would be happy to return. Thank you Areca.

The rooms were large with a separate office / luggage area. Classic building in great condition. Staff was excellent. And easy to get to a variety of locations in the city. Definitely would stay here again.

Friendly, helpful staff & a well maintained boutique hotel that has old world charm. We had the attic room which was spacious & well furnished. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning powerful especially with an additional ceiling fan. The shower was wonderfully strong. The amenities were basic but adequate. The best part of our stay was the iced, flavored water freely available in the lobby for guests. It was especially nice after walking in the warm outdoors. A nice touch of complimentary afternoon tea with a few tasty nibbles. We would definitely stay here again.

The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable but most importantly, the ceiling fan with the ac unit made it one of the best rooms we have had in the region. The shower is also fantastic.

I felt like I walked onto a movie set back in the 20’s. The hotel kept the room setting from the early 1900’s. It is beautiful and relaxing! Everything was excellent. The only down side was the pillows.
