I stayed here as my last night in Ithaca after my son’s graduation from the hotel school. The morning we were to leave (and drive 16 hours across the country) the hotel did not have hot water. I understand they were having a maintenance issue but the service recovery was nonexistent. I was told, “sorry for the inconvenience.” I was not offered any sort of compensation. A hotel needs to provide 2 services - a bed and a functioning bathroom. I could not sit around and wait for the hot water to be fixed so I took a FREEZING shower. At checkout neither desk staff mentioned the water or asked about my stay. As I left I told them I was very unhappy about their response to the water and one of the 2 male staff members literally smirked at me. This was at 8:30 am on May 27th if Statler management wanted to identify the smirker, unfortunately I didn’t get his name. Pretty poor service from the school of hospitality - my son was embarrassed when I told him about my experience. He has worked at the Statler as well.

An iconic hotel, owned by Cornell University School of Hotel Management, that is used by the School to provide on-the-job training to students. The rooms and bathrooms are excellent, and the breakfast and dinner at the flagship restaurant, Taverna Banfi, is first rate.

First time staying at the famed Statler. Customer service was exceptional, room was nice (amazing view from one of the Tower Rooms), walls were a bit thin, asked for an extra blanket and got a quilted mattress cover but all in all it was good. We ate at Taverna Banfi and will not be going back - each dish was overly salted (crazy amounts), the lighting was like a diner’s, the tables uneven, banquet too low for the height of the table, and our waitress was quite inept even at the simplest of things. Conveniently located so a great place to stay while visiting Cornell, just expect some bumps.
