There is a lot to like about White Pine Lodge. It is a good value for the price and I feel like we might consider staying here again. The community hot tub is big. The rooms are decent, with good sized fridges (including a freezer big enough for our ice packs) and beds comfortable enough that no one complained for lack of sleep. The continental breakfast was OK - nothing hot, except for waffles, but there were two waffle makers and decent coffee. The staff were very friendly, especially given how overstretched they all were having to run the gas station and the hotel at the same time. They always let us use the breakfast room to eat dinner or play games and they were extremely kind during our interactions.
All that said, it is not a clean place and there really aren’t any amenities beyond the hot tub and continental breakfast. The staff is so overstretched that they can’t really keep up with breakfast - they run out of things and don’t have a chance to come in and replenish. And they definitely don’t have time to clean. On multiple occasions, I felt it necessary to sweep up the breakfast room and wipe down the tables because they hadn’t been cleaned from breakfast. They don’t have enough staff to offer housekeeping during your stay, so things can get pretty dirty in the room. The smoking area is just outside the main entrance, too.
Overall, it was cheap and the people were very nice. But very dirty. You get what you pay for, I guess.
