The Historic Lucerne feels like a European Hotel - is not a chain. I enjoy staying in a smaller place, in a real neighborhood. As an Art, culture and museum person, the location is great, the staff is wonderful, as is the Nice/Matin restaurant located in the building.

Requested a fridge for when I arrived, yet it wasn't there when I got to my room and I had to specifically ask for one. The fridge was installed quickly, but the first one they put in was broken. Its compressor would only go on for brief periods before shutting off, and the fridge barely got cold. When I asked the staff about my concerns, they told me this was normal, and I shouldn't expect it to get that cold. Ultimately it stopped working at all overnight and seemingly blew the outlet too. They put in a new fridge at my request, and upon plugging it in, nothing happened. They told me this was normal and I should just wait for it. I had to be the one to suggest that the outlet needed a reset; after doing so, the new fridge finally began working as I would expect a fridge to.

I really liked the hotel. It was very comfortable, the lobby is nice and the staff is helpful. The only thing I would add is an in-room mini fridge to keep drinks cold.

Great NYC trip

We had a great stay at the Lucerne. We booked a deluxe suite and expected a much smaller room in NYC. It had a full separate space, a large bathroom and a lot of space in the bedroom including a dresser and a desk with a chair. The front desk staff was super helpful and the doormen were friendly and accommodating. My one small complaint was that the room was not cleaned until 6 pm on our first day, so we needed to wait and then the cleaning staff must have felt rushed because the room was not super clean, but it was fine and the beds were made and fresh towels left. Overall, great hotel, amazing location, would absolutely stay again.

This hotel is in a wonderful location - near subways, museums, Central Park, Zabars, etc. There are numerous restaurants in the area in addition to Nice Matin which is attached to the hotel. I love the neighborhood which is very walkable.
