Adirondack Lakeside Log Cabin With Mountain Views
Classic Adirondack log cabin located on 6+ acres of private land, with magnificent mountain views and 400 feet of lakefront . There is a large stone fireplace in the living room, a screened porch, 3 outside fireplaces, a waterfront deck with tete-a-tete, canoes and a rowboat to launch from your own dock. Have breakfast in the fully functional kitchen; refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blender, pots, pans, dishes -- all the necessities. The new gas grill is ideal for a cookout. The master bedroom offers an Adirondack log bed, while there is a loft area that sleeps four, and a hide-a-bed sofa in front of the fireplace. Watch Satellite TV, DVD movies or just sit outside on your Adirondack chairs, by the campfire, and appreciate the star filled sky.
Surrounded by the sounds of nature you will be reminded that you do have neighbors - loons, ducks, Blue Heron, etc.., Completely private on 6+ acres with 400 feet of waterfront. In the summer pick blueberries down by the dock or across the road. Plenty of dirt roads leading right from the cabin are well suited for hiking, nature walking or biking to discover the beauty and wonder of the Adirondacks.
The Lakes: Mountain view lake is a small private quiet mountain lake home to beavers, ducks and loons. Canoe via a channel and discover Indian Lake. Indian Lake is bigger and better suited for swimming, and tubing. Both lakes offer lots of fishing opportunities; perch, pike and small-mouth bass. Small kids will enjoy the sandy beach area with a wade in point on Indian Lake while older kids (including our labs) have been known to jump right from the cabin's private dock. Both lakes are about 3 miles long -Mt. View is narrow and Indian Lake is wide. The lakes are connected and offer fishing opportunities with small motors, kayaks, canoe, or rowboats.
There are lots of bigger lakes nearby: Meacham Lake, Saranac Lake, Lake Plaid, Mirror Lake, etc.., Fly fishing is renowed at Salmon River. Deer River flow only 20 minutes away offers abundant wildlife, large pike, easy canoe launch and even some trout! Enjoy the St. Regis canoe area and make sure to bring the camera.
The Mountains: Hiking, walking, biking, jogging, running. Whatever you can do with a mountain the Adirondacks is the place to do it. Hike Debar Mountain at Meacham Lake Campground or hike to the top of Azure Mt. with the working firetower but make sure you 'take a rock to the top' to prevent wind erosion. Look for soaring hawks and spectacular views of the St. Regis Canoe area. Dauphin Nature park is only .25 miles from the cabin's front door and offers lots of hiking opportunities without the drive. Paul Smith's Visitor Center offers hiking and walking opportunities for all levels from a climb up Jenkins Mountains to wide dirt paths for toddlers.
The fall is a spectacular time of the year. The Adirondack mountains are encased in autumn splendor and nature is a master artist with a variety of colors; gold, red, orange, etc.... Visit the High Peaks in Keene Valley and be prepared to fall in love!
The cabin: Where do you go to relax? No work, no traffic, no cell phones and no stress. The only thing you have to do is what you want. Build a fire, grab a blanket and listen to the distinct sound of each raindrop while you relax, read or take a nap. Get dressed and get that heart pumping with a challenging hike. Look for wildlife while you hop on the bike or grab the fishing rod and reel in some fun. Rediscover your own voice in nature's golden silence.
Build an outside fire and toast the smores! Throw a log on the indoor fireplace, play cards, watch a movie or look for stars in the nighttime sky. Stay up late and let your body's alarm clock wake you. Snuggle up next to the fire, partner or family pet. Canoe, kayak or take a dip from the dock. You decide! The most important thing to spend is your time. You won't remember the minutes just the moments. Enjoy each moment with yourself or with your family at the cabin on the lake in the mountains.
We had a wonderful time and Doug was a terrific host. He met us at check-in, walked us through the cabin, showed us the boats/canoes, and told us a bit about the history of the area and fun places to spend some time. Very charming and rustic cabin, super comfy. It's a very intimate and private setting, secluded but 30min from town. Excellent private dock to launch the boats provided, or to launch your own. Nice paddlers pond, not much power boat action. Herons, bald eagles and assorted cormorants and ospreys were seen. With little noise pollution, was so good to remember what quiet sounds like.Lots of northern pike and some respectable bass in the pond. Very fun place for kids, we brought an assortment of grandkids and they all want to go back next year.Highly recommended.
We were looking for a magical place to celebrate my wifeâs milestone birthday. This cabin delivered on all fronts. The property was gorgeous, all six acres providing privacy and a sense that we were miles from civilization. The cabin itself was warm and welcoming. Itâs not often that one has the opportunity to stay in a log cabin made of hand hewn logs. Everything about the space was inviting and relaxing. Being surrounded by an impeccably built and maintained cabin added to the overall experience. Our days were spent canoeing on both lakes accessible from the dock, we wish we had more time to explore further down the Salmon River. We watched Osprey from the deck by the lake, saw Bald Eagles from the canoe, listened to the chatter of the ducks and King Fishers, and had a beaver swim right up to the dock at sunset one night. Three Loons fished near the property and their calls filled the quiet most evenings. We canât thank Doug enough for his hospitality and for preserving this special cabin. His suggestions for local activities and his overview of the property were an added bonus.
This camp is beautiful, itâs super private, and the fishing is great. The screened porch was perfect for taking in the surroundings, reading a book, and listening to the rain. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies for cooking and there was ample room for our family of 6. Cabin has lots of games and badminton on the front lawn was fun. We also enjoyed
Critter Cabin is everything we want in a vacation cabin. This cabin is authentic with every thing we need. Very cozy, clean, quiet. Wonderful views of Mt. View Lake. All the needed amenities for outdoor activities plus great wi-fi. Such peace and quiet. A perfect place for us and our two dogs. Thank you so much Doug for letting us stay here all these years.
If you are looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the tranquil lake, listen to loon calls and wake up to the sunrise reflecting on the water, this is the perfect place. We have already booked our stay for 2025 and can't wait to return.
The cottage is very cozy and cute, with log interior with large stone fireplace and gas fireplace. We were disappointed that there was practically no lake or mountain view from the screened porch. Trees and brush obscuring views. The cottage could use a thorough cleaning. Doug, the host, is very knowledgeable about the area and communication with him was very easy. It is best to plan to go to one of the public beaches for swimming or wading.
This was everything we were hoping to get out of a vacation to the Adirondacks. We really enjoyed the scenery and the lake, the local hiking trails and the fishing. The location is very secluded and private, but still within driving distance of activities. The cabin was a bit smaller than I was expecting, but it was a perfect size for our family of 4. It should be said that the loft sleeping area has low ceilings and mattresses on the floor, so good for kids but not really for adults. The screened in back porch was really nice, as was listening to the loons on the lake.
Great secluded property with a beautiful cabin.
Lots of privacy if that what you looking for.
For people that love to swim and have fun in the water, we were disappointed with the lake. Itâs simply unusable. I think that should be state very clearly in the description of the property. Yes, you can use a boat, but swimming is impossible.
Also couple of kayaks on the property would be great additions.
Overall, great place on the lake if you are not planning to use the lake for swimming.
We were looking for a getaway far from the cacophony of the city and we found it. A very beautiful setting, comfortable surroundings and peace and quiet. The home was beautiful and serene. There were a few issues of miscommunication, however. Upon booking, the listing stated there was a hot tub, which was the sole reason we chose this place over the other two rentals we were looking at. The listing was mismarked and there was not a hot tub, something we found out upon our arrival. Also, this home requires you to bring your own linens (towels, sheets) which we only found out a week before our stay. This caused an issue as we then had to purchase sheets (we only had king size at home) and pack/travel, with those necessities. Had we been flying it would have been more inconvenient. They also require you to clean upon leaving (as though it were your own house and you were expecting company). Since we had a very long drive to come home and we had to pick up my mother-in-law at 7am, having to pack up sheets and clean before we left the residence in the morning would have been taxing, therefore we chose to leave the night before and rent a hotel room closer to her, which was an added expenditure we really didn't need. Had we been made aware of these at the time of booking, it may have been a different story. Would we visit again? Yes, as we are now aware of what is expected. But we were caught unaware. The home, however, is worth the cons. AMAZING!!!
Peaceful, quiet, enjoyable. Fabulous, cozy cabin, serene lake. Great place for our dogs for hiking & swimming. Doug is a wonderful person/host. Surrounding ADK area has a lot of adventure & beauty.
This was our second year at Camp Critter. We all loved our stay. The cabin is so cute and cozy. There is the screened in porch in case it rains. Then there is the lovely deck where you can sit outside when it is sunny, feeling the nice breeze blowing on your skin. Then thereâs the seating area down by the lake which is lovely to sit at and just watch the water and the beautiful sunsets. Doug is a wonderful host and so easy to talk to. Thank You Doug for sharing your lovely Camp.
Staying on the lake was a pleasure. We enjoyed conversing with Douglas at check in and appreciated his knowledge of the area and suggestions on things to do.
We had an amazing time at the cabin. Beautiful cabin and views from the dock and sitting areas. Very private and quiet, just what we were looking for. Doug was a great host and we took advantage of a number of his suggestions such as hiking areas and canoe trips. Cabin has every thing you would need and is well kept. We will definitely be back!
We spent a wondeful week in the peace and quiet at the cabin. The cabin is clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a quiet week away on the lake. We kayaked, hiked and fished and enjoyed the solitude. Doug is a great host - he showed us around when we arrived and made sure our stay was everything we expected.
We.would absolutely stay here again! Thanks for sharing your place with us!
This was our first vacation since COVID and we chose Camp Critters for several reasons, it is dog friendly, lakefront, reasonably priced, and pretty close to where my son lives in Massena. We found it to be better than the pictures on VRBO, so cozy and charming, with a well-equipped kitchen and large updated bathroom. The loft was small since our family incudes 5 adults, but we used the pull out couch and it worked out. Some of the things we enjoyed about the cabin include;
1. We loved that it is quiet and secluded. There were other camps across the lake, but our cabin was surrounded by woods and the lake.
2. We love the view of the lake and mountains from the dock.
3. We really appreciated that there are two canoes and a rowboat with the life jackets provided. We canoed out to the bigger lake and saw a family of loons and a bald eagle.
4. It was a little chilly one night and we loved the cozy propane fireplace. There are also 3 outdoor fireplaces and one in the cabin and firewood is provided. We had fires almost every night.
5. I loved the screen porch and that we could leave the double french doors out to the screen porch open and let those cool lake breezes blow through the whole cabin.
Overall this is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy time with your family. It's far from the crowds that you see at the lakes south of here and we loved that. We all want to come back again next year.
This was our second stay at Camp Critters! We had a wonderful time enjoying the camp in the fall. Thank you to the Johnsons for allowing us to have a memorable family get together in such a great place đČ
We had a wonderful time staying at the cabin! The dock is perfect for putting kayaks in the lake and it's not deep water. Our dogs also enjoyed the property. Lots of areas to just sit and enjoy the outdoors including a screened in porch. The kitchen is nicely appointed and has all the basics. We cooked at the cabin most nights and also used the grill that is available. Doug is a great property manager/owner and is readily available to answer any and all questions. He is very through with an overview of cabin and how everything works upon arrival. Overall - We'd definitely return for another visit!
Camp Critters is everything we had hoped for! The description and other reviews describe it very well. The cabin is rustic, clean and comfortable. We spent lots of time on the screened-in porch as well as sitting down at the lake and enjoying serene sunsets. It is amazing how quiet it is!
We love to hike with our 3 dogs, we found a large variety of trails that we loved. And there are other places to explore if you want to venture farther, like Lake Placid. We wished we had more time!
The owner Doug is very kind and helpful. He is a phone call away if needed, but we never needed him because we had absolutely everything we wanted and needed!
We loved this lovely remote camp and are definitely planning to return. We could not recommend more for those of you who like to be away from it all.
