My experience with this hotel was mixed. I had a very negative first impression but ultimately ended up having a comfortable and pleasant stay.
The biggest problem is that the photos provided do not accurately portray the overall feeling of the hotel. It feels like a bait and switch or scam upon first entry as it's far more like a hostel than a hotel. The front desk is unmanned most of the time, and does not feel like a hotel entrance at all, which was unsettling and unexpected.
My room had an enormous water stain around the bed, which was pretty unpleasant to see right off the bat. The stain combined with the eclectic selection of the furniture made the room look grimy on first look.
Ultimately the room ended up being very comfortable. It's quite large with an enormous bed for Japan standards. Despite the first impression of uncleanliness due to the water stain, the room was up to par. The bathrooms especially are very clean, though the water temperature does not get very hot even when turned all the way up, which is unusual for a Japanese hotel.
The neighborhood is excellent and accessible which tipped the scales towards the positive. There are great shops, restaurants and coffee a short walking distance, and the hotel is between two train stations.
I would say to temper your expectations with this hotel - it has virtually zero services due to the lack of front desk, and does not feel like a proper hotel, but my room was comfortable and the location is great.
