Chai T House by the rice fields
Located minutes away from Ubud centre, the 12 T Houses are a unique community in a beautiful setting with guests from all over the world. Enjoy the privacy of your own space or mix with interesting people, make new Balinese and international friends.
Chai is a two storey two bedroom house with use of a beautiful shared pool. It has one bedroom upstairs with great views of the pool/rice fields and one bedroom downstairs in a separate pavilion. It has two Balinese style open air bathrooms, a large kitchen, spacious seating areas and can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children (sofa beds). A baby cot is also available upon request.
During your stay, you will experience a serenity that cannot be found in central Ubud.
There is a beautiful swimming pool (with children's pool area) beside the rice fields. This is shared with the other T houses and there is always a quiet time for a relaxing swim.
Daily maid service, free wifi (good connection) and basic breakfast is included in your stay. As maids have to juggle a few houses, they might not be that punctual.
The house offers you an experience to stay in an environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable compound, which is a part of Balinese village life. The house is for people who love to meet other people, kids usually make new friends when they stay here.
Chai House is a 5 to 10 minute drive from Ubud centre and 10 minutes from the Monkey Forest. It is located just outside of the picturesque town of Ubud, famous for its food, views and cultural attractions, including striking waterfalls and temples.
The setting offers true tranquility as it is set away from the town with a few restaurants close by. The staff are available to make you an evening meal upon request using fresh local ingredients (order 1 day in advance).
We have a fantastic local driver who will bring you from/to the airport (or other location) at very reasonable rates. He is highly recommended, with good English speaking and an exceptional knowledge of Bali; he can create a unique experience of the island for you. Guest feedback: "Honestly, don't waste your time thinking you want to take yourself everywhere and find it on your own: you'll never find it. He will save you loads of time and stress and is a genuine great guy."
The T House staff can assist with arranging transport including: Motorbike rental Bicycle rental (one bicycle free for guest use) Driver/taxi service into Ubud Fantastic local driver with good English available for excursions and tours around the island
They can also arrange other services such as massage, laundry and freshly prepared local food (please order one day in advance).
Rates include all taxes/service charge, breakfast, wifi and daily maid service. Airport pick up is additional charge.
Set up as an indoor/outdoor experience, you live close to nature and will have daily visits from ducks, frogs and geckos. Please appreciate the natural setting of the house.
The Chai T house was a refresing experience. Since it is open to the elements, there was naturally some dirt and dust inside the property. The sheets were not high quality but they were clean, the furniture was neat and in good condition, and there were plenty of lights and electrical outlets - oddly placed switches and all.The communal pool was refreshing and clean, though there were leaves and other organic matter in the pool that had sunk to the bottom - normal for an outdoor, uncovered pool. It did not stop us from swimming in the pool and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The property managers were friendly and welcoming and offered plenty of useful advice about hte area and about the local customs. The Chai T house was not luxury living - from a Canadian standpoint, it was more like very luxurious glamping. It was a bit raw, a bit rough around the edges, a bit buggy (except inside the bed with the mosquito netting). However, there was something magical about being inside the upper bedroom, safely watching a tropical rainstorm blow through. There was something special about being surrounded by the jungle in the outdoor (mostly private) bathroom. Between the very active and vocal roosters in the area AND the villagers practicing and preparing for Nyepi, it was an unforgetable experiene that we will enjoy forever. * Be prepared - the wall between the two shower stalls is narrow enough that your friend/traveling partner could reach around and scrub your...back.
What an amazing place to stay. Lovely comfy beds, helpful team who were always ready to help in any way they could. We will definitely return to this paradise so close to the Centre of ubud. Easy to get around but away from the busy centre
When we arrived we weren't sure about Chai T. House, but it has exceeded expectations. Chai T house is a little dated, and the open house and use of wood makes it a bit damp. The kids missed a place to unwind with some screen time. The house does have a tv, but it wasnt working. The wifi however is good and we had a laptop. The gardens are amazing and the staff work hard to maintain the gardenbeds. The kids enjoyed the wildlife that hops, crawls and flies through. The pool is in need of renovations. The tiles are very rough and grout is missing from some areas creating sharp edges. It does however serve its purpose and it is a great size for some morning laps. The staff cook great breakfasts and have been able to help with all requests. The massages are also highly recommend. The special mention goes to driver, Putu. His enthusiastic attitude and language skills made the experience even better. We can highly recommend him.We enjoyed watching the farmers harvest, plough and sow the ricefields and the little street infront of chai T, it felt like we were part of the neighbourhood for a week. We would be happy to return.
Staying at chai tea House was a life enhancing experience. The lovely location with fabulous Staff, the great views and the great swimming pool were all my soul needed
Our family of four had an incredible stay at Chai T villa. The kids (ages 6 and 9) loved their upstairs bedroom while we enjoyed the spacious bedroom on the ground floor. The location is absolutely idyllic and peaceful, overlooking the swimming pool and rice fields beyond, with lovely shade throughout the day. The staff were a delight throughout our stay and very friendly, and the breakfasts and in-house dinners they prepared were delicious.
The rural nature of the villa does come with some drawbacks. It is located quite a distance from a substantial town, so walkable choices for eating out and purchasing supplies are limited, and the main road to Ubud nearby is difficult and dangerous to walk on. We therefore relied on the excellent driver Putu (as recommended by the hosts) to visit local attractions and spend time in and around the centre of Ubud. The sounds and smells of rural life are never too far away either. The local roosters arenât fussed about waking you up early in the morning, and if the breeze blows the right way, the musk of the neighboursâ cow tends to visit every now and again. There is no air conditioning but we generally didnât miss this during our stay, with the weather being entirely pleasant, and only needing a light breeze from the fan at night.
The pool was great for the kids, and magical for us to relax by in the afternoon, and the outdoor shower was a treat. Overall Iâd thoroughly recommend this villa for a peaceful Bali stay.
What a treat for our first night in Bali. Kadek met us when we arrived and showed us everything we needed. We looked out to the pool and rice fields which was a nice and tranquil. Our place was very clean and because we arrived late. We order dinner which was delicious and cooked to perfection. Chef surprised with a wonderful desert. Overall our two nights in Chi T House was amazing, and the staff were wonderful.
The T house has a beautiful aura of seclusion and removal from the crowded city of Ubud. We found the pool to be an amazing way to keep cool after long days seeing the sights of Bali. The quirky little house, with its gorgeous open-air eating spaces and tree-house style sleeping rooms became home for a few sweet days.
We needed a real break after the cold Victorian climate and this was just the place. It was rural (thank you roosters, frogs, geckos, cats, dogs and temple business for our morning wakeup call) and the location overlooking the rice fields was superb. Our initial disappointment that the water had gone from the rice fields which were ready for harvest gave way when we watched with interest as the villagers cut the rice, collect the grains and dried them on the street a few hundred meters away.
And if I wanted to see wet paddy fields, all I had to do was walk a few meters away to another terraced area. The food was simple, very reasonably priced and oh so tasty. Go for it try a rural Balinese getaway. Ubud is only a short drive away.

If you love glam ping, this is the place for you. Beautiful setting, pool gorgeous.
We loved the Chai T house, it was like ritzy glamming with the open style accommodation. Complete with lots of frogs, lizards, butterflies & some friendly cats & dogs. The kids were not impressed when it started raining & water was running down the wall inside their bedroom & frogs visiting them most nights. The carpark was right behind their bedroom so was noisy when people were coming & going, open rafters so you can hear everything. Not so bad in the master bedroom upstairs, you tune out after a couple of nights. The staff were great, very helpful & genuine. Lovely breakfast cooked in our villa every morning. Lovely rural outlook over rice paddies. I would stay here again, leave the children at home!!
THouse is located coviniently in the rural setting of Ubud. We walked to Ubud and it took us 30 minutes of an interesting march. Walking through the village and fields is a pure pleasure but one you get to the main road the real challenge begins as footways are very narrow and full of open holes to storm water channels. Taxi from /to Ubud 30,000 RP.
Accommodation is a perfect personification of Balinese spirit. Garden, courtyard, house are tangled together and fluid. Open air bathrooms are a fascinating cultural curiosity which we enjoyed very much.
Ground floor room is more European style:with walls, glazing and TV. The first floor bedroom is a Balinese interpretation of it: open to nature, stunning sunset views. Both rooms have big fans and mosquito nets. And we found that it is sufficient to feel comfortable. It was a bit loud at night due to the surrounding nature. Froggy rap accompanied by cricket drum section became our favourite music.
Breakfests are freshly prepared by lovely ladies. You just open the door in the morning and they come relatively soon to make typical breakfast food: eggs (scrambled, fried, omlet or pancakes), toast, fruit and Balinese coffee. Perfect start of a day.
Swimming pool is clean, comfortable, with a shallow section for children. It is long enough to have some meaningful exercise. Tranquil views over the rice field. Stargazing recommended.
Optional services include: massage and taxi. Massage is SUPERB ladies provided us with Balinese relaxation massage. And WE deeply regret that we took only one.....
Gerry recommended Putu the taxi driver for the airport transfer and we also asked him to give us a tour and drive us to Amed. And indeed his services were also excellent. He speaks fairly good English, knows places so can suggest routes if you give him your objectives, talks but also gives room for private conversations. We were so happy that we employed him multiple times.
Overall we had wonderful time and THouse was an integral part of the experience.
The staff on the compound is great. Apart from doing their job well, they also are very helpful in non standard situations such as assisting in changing the cooking class booking or treating the wound. THANK YOU!!!
Ligging is mooi.
