Most rooms had a musty smell and it was hard to find one that didn’t. Restaurant is ok but nothing to write home about. It’s extremely isolated so you’re a bit stuck if the on-site restaurant is not to your liking. Most difficult part was the noise of the on-site OSHO meditation retreat. Expect to be woken up some mornings around 6:00 or 6:30 am by loud tribal drumming and primal screams. Other mornings will be different forms of music and chanting but always something. If you’re a morning person, that’s great (maybe). I’m not and it was difficult, to say the least.
Staff were great, though, and the views were amazing. Most of the waterfalls in the area of Ubud are clustered around this place, including two of the best - Kanto Lampo and Tukad Cepung.
If the rooms were renovated to eliminate the mustiness and the OSHO retreat was moved out, I would recommend it as a remote getaway option.
Really lovely. Location is a bit far from anywhere but the hotel itself is great, the room was super clean and really comfortable. Loved the balcony and all the storage space. The staff were amazing!

overall, pretty good. not many options for non home stay hotels in the area and this is, for the price, is the best value. large grounds with 2 pools and a small but cool walking trail that goes down into the jungle. during covid restaurant was extremely limited (but good Nasi goreng and bali coffee); kububali and amertha only other “western” food options in the area and if u not on motorbike it’ll be hard to get there. rooms here are good size and have nice views. skeleton staff now but they are friendly and professional and keep the grounds looking good (if a bit slow at times). puri sarons have that classic old 70s style bali architecture and it still has a classy feel even if it’s a bit fading. some villas have private pools. good location for seeing water temples and waterfalls but it’s also pretty Secluded. overall recommended if you’ve seen most of bali and are looking for something less traveled.

Nice place with family so darkness in the night also the near super market 20 min drive
Very outdated (unless you stay in the wood cabins I believe are modern and very nice).
Very basic restaurant. Staff English is almost non existent.
Basic breakfast
Big rooms and big balconies with rainforest view but very old and in need of maintenance.

All about location
This was our fourth visit in the Ubud region - we've previously stayed in the middle of town, to the west in Penestanen and to the north in Junjungan. This time we wanted to try a little further out of town for extra peace, quiet and lots of nature. This is exactly what we got at Puri Saron Madangan. The Pros: it's in a beautiful lush, quiet setting; it's decently maintained; the staff are super friendly - especially the managers Sapta and Ketut; the pool is beautiful; we upgraded from a standard villa ($50pn) to the delux villa ($120pn) for the last 5 nights - sweeping jungle views, open-sky bathroom, separate living and bedroom, upstairs and downstairs balconies. The Cons: it is 40 minutes (sometimes longer) from Ubud so you will need to factor in transport time and cost if you're getting out and about every day (we rented scooters for 3 weeks via the hotel - but found it hard having to travel in on busy main roads everyday; there are no cafes/warungs at all near the hotel; the hotel restaurant food is very average; wifi was not working during or stay (but prepaid phone sim did the job - Indosat is by far the best coverage at Madangan...$12 for 7G of data).
It's very rural in this area, with a few small villages nearby but not much to do or see. The resort however is beautiful, very comfortable and the room is nice. The view from the balcony is great too. There's nice cold AC and a hotel restaurant downstairs. The only downsides are that is the only restaurant you'll be eating at, and there was no wifi when I was there. It is nice for a relaxing weekend or if you want to escape ubud traffic.
Loved nealy all of it. Just what i wanted peace and quite.
Food very little vegetiarian food had to make the two options go a long way.
Its a long way from anywhere book transport before you go.
Escape from the tourist throngs and the constant harassment of the street sellers. This beautiful hotel is a diamond in the rough. Whilst it is a little far out of Ubud, approx. half an hour, this ensures that it is peaceful and we totally enjoyed experiencing the real rural Bali. Set on the side of a mountain amount rice fields. We really enjoyed the hotel pool and the jungle views. The staff went beyond the call to ensure we had everything. We enjoyed walking to the local villages and interacting with the locals and consuming the local food and drinks including home made rice wine at a road side stall. We would recommend this hotel as a get away, especially if you have access to transport, but it only costs 150,000 for a ride into Ubud.
We stayed here for 8 nights. The hotel is situated close to a river, it's picturesque, quiet and lovely. It has a nice pool, and the water was lovely. The staff are friendly and were lovely and accommodating. It's not flash but it's really value for money.
There is a free shuttle bus to Ubud at 10am every morning and returns at 6pm, the drivers were great. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Ubud. If you miss the return shuttle it costs around $15-20 to taxi back. We ended up hiring scooters in Ubud for $5 a day and enjoyed the freedom of exploring the village roads. The hotel advertises jungle/river walks but for some reason this isn't possible at the moment and we found our own adventures.
The only issue I had with the place was the food and food service which was really frustrating. The restaurant staff were often trainee girls, who were so lovely but didn't understand much English. Daily we had to chase up basics like toast and coffee, or milk, or not getting fruit. We felt terrible as they are so nice, but decent food should be a priority and it was hit and miss, mostly miss - particularly the Western foods like steak and chips which were overcooked and cold. The only meal that was consistent was Nasi Goreng which I really liked but couldn't have twice a day every day. I think that if they had a chef, the hotel would be full all the time as it's really lovely.
There isn't anything close by so if you like your food - maybe stay somewhere else.
We're on a 3 week visit to Bali and have been staying all round the island. This resort is in a remote secluded location right on the edge of the rain forest. We were really impressed by the whole presentation, rooms, views, pools, staff and service. I'm only sorry we couldn't have stayed here more nights during our trip. The nearest city is Ubud, and they have a daily shuttle going there if you want to visit a busy Balinese city.

In the middle of nowhere.
Beautiful hotel but it is about 40 minutes drive from Ubud. Hours of the free shuttle to ubud is very limited. Otherwise you can pay their driver 150000 rupia to take you in. Situated in a tiny village there is no opportunity to find a restaurant to eat at or a place to get a massage. You are restricted to the hotel restaurant and massage. Breakfast was terrible took on average 30 to 45 minutes to get toast if you could call it that. Perfect place to relax if all you want to do is relax by a pool and not really go anywhere. Menu is very limited and the English skills of most of the staff is quite poor. Best thing about the hotel was the room and the driver.
We had a wonderful time & were very happy with this hotel, only wish it was closer to town.
Breakfast in our room were best Nasi Goreng ever & dinners the same.
Days were spent out of hotel but always greeted on return & dinner sorted by manager.
This place is gorgeous! We loved it here. It's a little bit out of the way, but we had our own car, so we got around pretty easily. The buildings are amazing and beautiful. The room is large, spacious and very well-kept. We had our own balcony plus a breakfast nook. I loved swimming in the pools in the mornings. The Indonesian breakfasts were quite good, but the Western breakfasts were a little sparse. We didn't try any other food though. You cannot beat this place for the price, though. Absolutely would stay again.
Absolutely great stay at the Puri Saron Madangan. I was basically the only hotel guest and the grounds and pool are stunning and lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A few things to note - while "English style" eggs and toast and fruit breakfast was great every morning, I did not enjoy the first dinner and ate in Ubud town after that. The hotel is decently far from Ubud, about 30 min drive. Would recommend having your own transport if you stay here. They offer a daily drop off and pick up service but the timings aren't great if you want to have dinner in Ubud. The hotel is older and there are certainly some areas needing improvement - like updating the bathrooms and having nice tolietries. But for the price - and the serenity of sitting on your huge balcony with a great breakfast overlooking the jungle, I am willing to compromise.
I really enjoyed staying here. The staff was great, my room was so quiet, clean and had the most amazing view. I slept really well every night and I loved relaxing at the pool area. The walk down to the river behind the resort is also enjoyable. The room and the facilities show their age a bit, but that did not bother me at all. There are 2 villages within walking distance from the resort.
