First off, we stayed at the former Duval Gardens, not the Avalon. We loved the warm sun on the front porch in the morning during our early breakfasts. In addition, the area was quiet compared to further north on Duval St. and even down on the southern end. It was an excellent location for walking everywhere on the island ( we love to exercise, so it was perfect). The site is a mile away from Higgs Beach and Zachary Taylor State Park and two blocks away from South Beach. Zachary Taylor State Park is a great place to hang out with a beautiful beach, lovely clean restrooms, a concession place with seating, and the availability to rent lawn chairs and an umbrella. Renting these items is also offered at Higgs Beach, a mile from the bed and breakfast. The staff was helpful and went out of their way to support us. Kimberly did an excellent job making recommendations and helping us with our luggage on the last day after check out because we had a 5:30 flight. We could then enjoy the entire day without worrying about our belongings. We did not know what to expect because it was our first time traveling to the Keys. We usually travel out of the country for vacations, but now we will think twice about coming back here. If you are a person that loves diversity in food, the area has a plethora of opportunities (healthy too) and all within a very short distance. We never waited once to be seated or on our food to come like we have had to do in our home state ever since Covid.

Cleanliness of room, pool and all of the common areas. Amenities like coffee, fruit and fresh baked cookies. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff.

We enjoyed our stay at the Avalon. From check-in to checkout, everything was great. They offer homemade cookies when you arrive. They have a small pool which was clean and refreshing. The room itself was spacious and clean. Breakfast is served on the front porch. It was delicious and had lots of options. Checkout is easy and quick. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely return to this property. Wonderful experience at the Avalon!

You can't go wrong with the Avalon Bed and Breakfast. Room was clean and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast hit the spot each morning! Located towards the south end of Duval Street and close to the Southermost Point makes it a great location for an easy walk to other sights.
