The Neighborhood: Whitechapel is a really vibrant area which is constantly evolving. You can walk to some of the best parts of East London - Victoria Park, Columbia Road Market and Shoreditch are all so close.
There are some beautiful old buildings, great pubs and it's only a short tube ride into the centre of town which make it a really great place to stay. The surrounding areas and Aldgate itself are fantastic for shopping. Aldgate High Street has a range of well-known eateries and traditional pubs. Meanwhile, just around the corner is the entrance to Brick Lane, where you can find a plethora of bohemian and vintage clothing shops.
There are two popular markets in the area. The first of which, Spitalfields, Londonâs oldest market is now a 7 day shopping destination with style, arts and traders markets. Conversely, Petticoat Lane Market is only open on a Sunday, but it is worth the wait.
Getting Around: Whitechapel tube station is located in Zone 1.
Tube -There are two main tube stations in the Whitechapel area, these are Aldgate East and Whitechapel which are both situated on the District and Hammersmith & City lines.
A journey from Whitechapel to Victoria would take approximately 20 minutes. A journey from Whitechapel to Kingâs Cross would take approximately 15 minutes.
Buses - The following bus routes run through/from Whitechapel: 25 â towards Ilford or Oxford Circus. (24-hour service). 106 â towards Finsbury Park. 205 â towards Mile End Park or Paddington. (24-hour service). 254 â towards Aldgate or Holloway D3 â towards Bethnal Green or Isle of Dogs The following night bus runs through/from Whitechapel: N253 â towards Aldgate or Tottenham Court Road.

The apartment lacked amenities as advertised. It had used toiletries in the shower, open food containers in pantry and not enough clean towels for a weeks stay. The check in process of getting the key at another location was a hassle. All the steps to secure this apt were not worth it. Total let down. The building had a weird oder and the neighborhood was not what we were expecting. We left two days into our trip after several calls to ask about heater werenât returned. This neighborhood is highly ethnic with few other food offerings. Would not return.
