Beautiful waterfront retreat with kayaks and bikes
You will love this perfect waterfront retreat on the Chocolay River with Lake Superior access. This custom built house is designed to take advantage of the great outdoors. From the cozy covered front porch to the spacious backyard, this home offers a relaxing, private oasis overlooking 100' of river frontage with beautiful views, a 530 sq ft. raised wood deck, a hot tub and even a pirate ship playhouse designed for hours of fun for the littles. In the winter, you can access Marquetteâs vast snowmobile trails right from the driveway!
For the biking enthusiast, the Heritage bike trail is right around the corner. From here you can bike less than four miles to downtown Marquette for a meal or a beer at one of Marquette's many craft breweries. You can bring your own bike or use one of the cruisers that we provide.
You can also fish from the shores for Pike or head out on the river in the kayaks provided where anglers report catches of Coho salmon and Lake trout. There are many bird species to be observed in the area including nesting bald eagles that fish the lake, migratory birds and an occasional Great horned owl. The land across the river is part of the Chocolay Bayou Nature Preserve a sanctuary with hiking trails and prohibited development.
Upon entering this home from the covered front porch, you'll love the outstanding views of the river. The living room with its large windows, warm wood floors and fireplace will draw you in. The kitchen is spacious and welcoming with cherry cabinets, granite counter tops, heated floors, and a large island. The upper level master suite offers large windows overlooking the water, a walk in closet, full bath with tiled tub/shower enclosure and granite counter tops. There are two additional bedrooms upstairs with a spacious bathroom complete with tiled floor and shower. The downstairs bedroom can also be used as a play room or second living room.
Our two families had the best time at this Property! It was the perfect location for all our hikes and dinners out in downtown Marquette! Would Highly recommend this home! And i know our group will be booking again next year! Our older boys loved kayaking and bike riding on the trails! The host of this property was very accommodating and got back to us very quickly with questions. 5 stars all the way around!
We had a nice stay. This was the most thoughtfully laid out place we have stayed at. There were plenty of towels, kitchen items, spices, etc. which is usually not the case. It felt like someone just opened their home and said please respectfully help yourself to our home. The place could be cleaner and kept up better, but it was very accommodating for our large family. We loved the kayaks and bikes!
The house was very clean and bright. The temperature was unseasonable HOT (90). The host had placed two window AC units in top floor windows. The host had top notch bathroom/shower products.Childrens toys were a great addition to exterior playground.Boats and bikes were put to extensive use.
Excellent home for an extended family stay in Marquette
This is a very nice home and property just a few minutes from downtown Marquette. Itâs easy to find and access; and itâs a convenient location for going wherever you need to in the area. The home sleeps 8 very comfortably, but you could sleep 3 in a King and 2-3 or 4 more in the trundles (if youâre on friendly terms ). And thereâs room for two more on the couches, if the hosts allow that. So I suppose 12 could squeeeze in there, if needed. There is a crib room, as well, next to one of the bedrooms. One note to be aware of: there are no bedrooms on the main floor (except perhaps the couches). There is a half bath. So our 91 year old did need help up the stairs to a bedroom. It was still worth the effort. Valerie is an attentive host and outfitted the home with every single thing a large family needs. Just bring your toothbrush, practically. Our family really enjoyed using the bikes on the nearby trail and the kayaks on the lagoon and out into Lake Superior. We also toasted marshmallows in the fire pit and enjoyed the hot tub. The backyard is beautiful, with chipmunks, cottontails, squirrels, birds of all kinds. Really a nice place. Marquette doesnât typically need air conditioning, so the home is cooled by the weather. Itâs heated of course and thereâs a nice gas fireplace in the living room. We enjoyed it on the cold day. The house is very open and has an airy feel - due to all the well-placed and large windows. Lots of light! Very good, pleasant feel to the house.
We rented this place to house my daughter and her wedding party. Since the ring bearer was 3, the space was amazing for him! The rest of us enjoyed the beautiful view and many walks along the path that is right there. It was perfect!
We stayed at the home, to be close to NMU and attend our Sons graduation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even the Grandma and Grandpas felt comfortable in the home! They really were interested in the homes history! We loved the view, the hot tubâŠgreatly stocked kitchen, and the full baby set up( but our granddaughter last minute, could not make the trip with her mom and dad, those were definite draws to our choosing the home!
The house was great, welcoming, clean, great views and bonus fresh snow to play in. Grandsons age 10 and 7 enjoyed skiing with Grandpa and parents while Grandma played with 2 1/2 year old in yard and house. There were TOYS and a good crib and fresh snow.
We had a wonderful stay at Valerieâs property in Harvey! We enjoyed the brand new hot tub and quick access to the snowmobile trails! 5 stars and we certainly will try to be back soon!!
My husband and I stayed up in Marquette for a long weekend. We pulled the trailer with our side-by-side and had space in the driveway to do that. The house was very clean but does have a little bit of a musty smell on the main floor and downstairs. The master bathroom is awesome! It even had everything you needed in the tub like shampoo and soap. The king size bed in the master bedroom is extremely soft, which we struggled with a little bit as we are not used to that! We would have loved a television in the bedroom as well, but it didnât make or break our stay. The kitchen is updated and has everything you need. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. It is a beautiful location and if we wouldâve brought our kids, they would have enjoyed the very cute playset. Thank you to the owners for providing this space to people!
The property was very sufficient for our needs and wants. The hot tub was a lot of fun. The veiw and privacy on the back yard was great. I hope we have the opportunity to stay here again.
The home was exactly as described and offered a lot of amenities that made the experience great when we weren't out exploring Marquette and the surrounding area! Great place to book with a large group of friends and family!
The stay was amazing. We had everything we needed and had a great time as a family. The property was even closer to downtown Marquette than I thought which made access to it along with lots of trails and beaches super easy. We enjoyed Harborfest, strongly recommend the Marquette Farmer's market, had an amazing kitchen to cook in, and this property was perfect if travelling with an infant. We had our 11 month old daughter with us and the crib room was perfect for her. It got dark enough even for naps during the day which is crucial as parents know. Highly recommend the property, I can't say enough good things about it.
We stayed here in fall of 2022 for a visit with our NMU student. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy family time with distant college students. The kitchen is one of the best stocked of all the places weâve stayed, making it easy to do home cooked meals.
House is quiet and the view of the water from everywhere in the house makes for a great way to start and end the day. Access to the Iron Ore Heritage Trail is great for walking and biking. Loved it!
The property was exactly as described in the listing. The accommodations were outstanding. My 9 year old had her first kayaking experience here with the kid kayak they had provided, and what a memory! Loved that the little river comes right out to the Lake and sugar sand beach. My little one loved time in the hot tub with dad. So many close shops and restaurants nearby while having the quiet retreat of this neighborhood, and the serenity of the woods and bayou in the back. Would absolutely come back.
Loved our stay here with our 4 adult kids. House was well appointed and in a great location. Felt secluded on the river while being just a short drive to downtown Marquette. We enjoyed the kayaks and walking/bike trail right at the house. Marquette was fun to explore with cute shops and restaurants along with hiking and swimming. We also did a day trip to Pictured Rocks from here, just 45 minutes away. Would definitely stay here again!
Our family of 8 gathered here for the 4th of July weekend. We had a wonderful time in this beautiful house which had a perfect view of nature and the Chocolay River! Seven of us slept here very comfortably. This house was so well stocked with everything imaginable. I was still discovering things on our last day. (Thank you so much for this, Valerie!) I am used to having to bring so many things from my own house, but needed absolutely nothing from home here. We loved sitting outside on the deck, on the patio, and/or in lawn chairs on the grass as we caught up with friends and family in the area. We enjoyed watching the bunnies, birds, squirrels, and chipmunks playing in the yard. We also loved sitting in the hot tub, fishing while kayaking, hiking on the trails, and playing board games. We were able to walk to two great restaurants/bars and Marquette was just a hop, skip, and jump away for all the things we wanted to do in the area. My grown kids and spouses enjoyed going just down the road to jump into their ice bath (Lake Superior). Valerie was an excellent host! We would love to stay here again!
Couldnât have asked for a better host and property!
Reasonably close to mountain bike trails and downtown.
Plenty of room for us to spread out.
We had a couple of questions when we arrived that were answered very timely.
We would rent this one again in a heartbeat!!
We came for our sonâs NMU graduation. We had plenty of room for our family and grandparents. There were 8 of us and we were very comfortable. We found the path to the lake and took several beautiful long walks along the beach. The kitchen was well stocked- we did quite a bit of cooking and sitting outside was beautiful!
