I'll start with the good news - this hotel is pretty central to a lot of the things we wanted to see in Montreal. The employees were also friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty perfunctory.
However, this hotel was one of the worst I've experienced in many years of foreign and domestic travels.
Our room overlooked a main boulevard about a block from a major hospital, and the first night we were there an ambulance went by blaring its siren about every 15 minutes or so. Fortunately it stopped around midnight, but my sleep had already been pretty seriously compromised.
Cleanliness was also an issue. The carpet outside the elevator on our floor was heavily stained and flecks of debris gave us our first clue about how well maintained this property was.
The sheets were not fitted on the bottom, so with a little movement in the bed, the bottom sheet came untucked and I ended up sleeping directly on the mattress (yuck).
The final straw was about 5am when the fire alarm started blaring with a false alarm.
