Fantastic location, in the dunes and literally steps to one of the most beautiful beaches on the Cape. Cleaning crew did an outstanding job with what they had to work with, upstairs bedrooms could use some serious updating but the location makes up for a lot of sins.
The house was a great size for our extended family. It does need some upgrades. The enormous deck needs some care -we brought a hammer and reset a lot of the nails, and we were concerned about splinters on little feet. The 1st floor toilet needs to be reseated, it moves. The faucet and water knobs in the upstairs sink leak. Please be more honest about the âstaircase to the beach.â The grand parents could not handle 108 steps each way. It is a dramatic scale. For the kids, the beach is beautiful and they loved it, but we all could not enjoy it.
The location was great, if youâre looking to stay on the Atlantic side of the cape. The beach is steps away, down long, steep, wooden stairs, and beautiful; not crowded at all. We basically only used the outdoor shower, which was great. The downstairs porch is great, but furniture is basic and not the most comfortable for lounging. The downstairs is wonderful; facing east and super bright. The kitchen had plenty for the six of us, and the sitting and dining areas were perfect. Bedrooms were all fine, but the upstairs patio couldnât be accessed. This was the biggest disappointment. The doors in both rooms were taped closed to enable small air conditioners to vent to the outside. We would have much preferred to be able to have fresh air. The WiFi isnât great, but hopefully, thatâs not the reason youâd stay at this house. Itâs a little older and a little rustic in ways, but absolutely charming and weâd stay in it again in a heartbeat.
The seashack needs some serious TLC. Even the handyman shared that the owners don't care about this property. There were inaccuracies in the listing such as square footage (we calculated), functionality of appliances, and location. The shack sits on Ocean Drive and is several hundred yards to get to the stairs that go to the beach. For my mother, who uses a walker and was swayed by the property's location, this was an impossibility to walk. There is also significant damage and deterioration to the house such as a severely damaged bathroom door, nails poking out of the clapboard which served as walls in the bedrooms, a single shower that wouldn't drain, etc. I appreciate that Del Mar was responsive from the first night we contacted them but it seemed like they didn't know the state of things inside the place. Welfleet is a beautiful special place that has not changed much since we were kids. But when properties misrepresent what they offer, it makes it hard to enjoy.
