The Red Cottage ~ 5 min. stroll to Historic St. George Street - on site parking

In full disclosure the Red Cottage is a 125 year old structure, built from lumber salvaged after the 1914 fire. It was used by a native Spaniard, Manuel Menendez, where he rolled cigars until the mid 1930's. It has its quirks and flaws but it's decor, warmth and persona are enchanting. Incredibly convenient and very accessible this is perfect for you if you love vintage.

It was converted to a one room studio with a small kitchen and bathroom. Rustic, quaint, cozy and charming ~ it was recently renovated but still maintains a touch of its history. The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig coffee machine and pods, cream & sugar, a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and normal kitchen necessities. Please note per the pictures, the bathroom is small and the shower can be a bit tight. A flagstone patio offers outside seating. Free off-street parking is available with lots of extra space for trailer, boat or a recreational vehicle.

The Cottage sits on a large piece of property behind a turn-of-the-century Victorian home (the property owner's rental) overlooking Castillo Drive, the entrance to the city. Francis Field, across the street, is the downtown dog park/event field. Less than 200 yards East is The Visitor Center, and City Gates. Castillo de San Marco (the fort) and Saint George Street are just beyond. Short drives take you to the beautiful beaches of Villano, Anastasia State Park and St. Augustine Beach. On the way to the beach, stop by the Alligator Farm and the Historic St. Augustine Light House. For shopping, St. George street offers many lovely boutiques, and gift shops. Or choose from area outlet malls, farmer's markets, antique stores, etc.

This little cottage is just too adorable! We loved it. The location was perfect. It faces Castillo Ave. It is a 7 to 15 minute walk to the important places! We didn't use the kitchen much other than to make coffee with plenty of KCups and the fixin's, but it is a full kitchen. The bed was perfectly firm! The temperature inside when we arrived was perfectly cool. The AC did have a struggle with the heat index of 110 - 115 for a couple days. But the owner made sure to get us a couple fans to help with that which was a good send! Hilary, was an awesome owner. Communication was perfect and caring! I highly recommend renting this little red cottage!

Unique property in an excellent location

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage, very comfortable with an eccentric kind of vintage style. The location was excellent for visiting all the local attractions. Communication was great. We would definitely stay again.

Absolutely loved our stay here! Clean, cute, and comfortable. The bed is extra comfy; we slept solid. Cold AC, hot shower. The kitchen had everything we needed for quick meals plus Keurig coffee. Loved the small space and the decor. Great location!! Quiet neighborhood across from a park with just a short walk to St George St. We left our car at the cottage the whole time which was the best part. Will definitely reserve here again next time we are in St Augustine!

Weekend Getaway

This is our second stay at the cottage. Perfect location to downtown with an inmate comfortable room to relax in at night. We also had a nightly visit from a friendly outdoor cat Harry that kept us company on the front patio.

Unhappy

First of all, there was mowed above the window and the bathroom was very dangerous were 71 and 77 and it was built up on a wooden box with about a 3 inch place to put your feet. It was just very unhappy with the place.

Small red house was lovely…

Awesome location…. The house was super cute inside and very clean. It’s a little misleading in the outside. I’m figuring it’s a converted shed, but the owner did an excellent job. The only issue is that walls are think so you can hear everything.light sleepers may have issues.

Red cottage is little but offers big benefits

The owners of the Red cottage were extremely responsive. Check-in was exactly as specified. They were super kind and even offered to allow me to stay a little longer when I explained that I wasn't even checking in until evening. The location is the biggest benefit to this place. You could walk everywhere.

Great Location

First, the good stuff:1. Property Managers: During our visit I interacted with all 3 managers, and they were all nice, gracious and very helpful. Top marks!2. Location: Outstanding! It's only a short walk downtown. We rarely used our car to go anywhere.3. Nice supply of K-cups! I enjoyed daily coffee for free. I really appreciated that nice touch. Now the not so good stuff:1. Although it's listed as a nonsmoking rental, the place wreaks of cigarette smoke. After returning home we had to launder all of our clothes because they smelled of smoke. 2. The cottage could use a paint job. The walls in the bathroom are worn and dirty. It's not a deal breaker, just unsightly and unnecessary. A quick coat of paint would be an easy fix.3. Not enough kitchen ware. There was only 1 coffee cup. We couldn't both have our morning coffee at the same time. 4. The toilet isn't easy to access. Because the place is so small, the toilet is elevated up two small steps. I had to put one foot on the first step and the other on the top step to be able to balance, and your feet dangle if you sit. The top floor simply needs to be extended over the first step to increase the floor space under the toilet. Not difficult, just a little DIY construction.5. Wi-Fi was spotty. The TV kept losing the Wi-Fi and several times we had to connect it to our own hotspot.Overall, we had a good stay, the place just needs some TLC.

Quirky Bungalow

There was no working refrigerator. It was definitely rustic and could use a general deep cleaning. The manager lives on property and was very nice. Location is the strongest selling point, easy walk to visitor's center and Old Town. It was workable for the three night stay we were there.

Cute weekend spot

The location is awesome and easily walkable distance to downtown St. Augustine. It smelled like there was some residential smoke in the space, so could be an issue for someone with allergies.

Nights of Lights

Perfect location to walk to everything! Kitchen was perfect for quick bites and coffee! Helped save a little by having this available and having a morning coffee without leaving the cottage. The bed was super comfy and the down bedding took it to the next level! The loft was great for extra sleeping (we did not use it) and yes a very vertical ladder to get up there. Non-clostrophobic Kids would love it!!!! The bathroom was quirky. I didn't mind it at all. Shower (as mentioned in the description) is quite small. The toilet is on a 'throne'. I absolutely love this cottage and would stay there again. Jeremy was a fabulous attentive host. Hilary was very responsive to all questions.

Loved The Location

We were conveniently located to all the events. It was within walking distance. Jeremy was wonderful. He gave us all the information we needed to make it a wonderful stay. There is a large crowd at St Augustine during the Colonial Night Watch therefore, it was so convenient to eat at the restaurant The Village Inn right across the street. We were able to park two cars on the property. Building a fire and watching all the action was so much fun. Would love to go back. Thank you. Debra

Love staying here

This has become our goto location for visiting the Nights of Lights celebration. The cabin is cozy and rustic so you have to go into it with that understanding, but it is clean, comfortable, and the location is amazing. It is an easy stroll to the downtown area with a park across the road for easy walking with the pups. All in one of my favorite lovations to stay.

Cute place to stay, close to everything

The cottage was cute, affordable, and close to everything. The pictures in the listing are accurate. Thes hosts, Jeremey and his sister Hilary were great!! They were very nice and accomodating!! There were some reviews that mentioned excessive noise: we didn't experience that. Of course cars and people go by, but it wasn't any more than anywhere else we've stayed there. The shower: the shower was truly tiny, as stated in the listing.. We discussed this before booking, as my husband is 6 foot 220 pounds. He was able to shower and get fully clean :) However, he just barely fit, so if you are bigger than that, know you may be washing one body part at a time. The toilet: the toilet is on a weird platform as some reviews complained about. It is a bit awkward, but overall it wasn't a problem for us. The bed: the listing states a king sized bed and a queen. Just know going in the queen is what is in the main room. The king must be in the loft, we didn't go up there. The cottage and everything in it is older, it doesn't feel like your staying in a pristine hotel, it feels like your staying with your older Grandmother who does the best she can to keep up with things.. It was comfortable and affordable. I guarantee you will not find another place in Saint Augustine so close to everything for the price of this cute lttle cottage!
