Sent an email to tell the management of my disappointment. Room was shocking. Tiny box room compared to what is shown on the website. I spent a lot of money to stay for two nights. Service was dreadful. I shall not be staying there again.

Location is perfect for those arriving by train, and easily walkable to the city center. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good. The hotel is lovely and has been renovated with an attention to detail. The elevator only goes to the 3rd floor, so walk up to floors 4 and 5, but staff was very clear about that. Would stay here again.

Imagine you've paid your surgeon to do an operation on your right leg and he will in fact perform surgery on your left one. I did not receive the room I have paid for and the hotel staff refused to offer the room I've paid for even if they've accepted full responsibility. It looks like common practice for this hotel to sell rooms located far away from main building (The infamous "sidings bedrooms") as rooms located in the main building. 1 in 2 guests will end up in a room located far away from the main building, a room full of mould, dirt, soiled furniture leaking pipes and smell of sewage. At a price of superior room located in the main building. Traumatising experience.

Mediocre, rooms could do with an update along with amenities. My husband checked out and was charged for the room (which is already paid for when booking) took me half an hour to sort out over the phones yesterday, still not refunded, no gesture of good will. Overall pretty poor service

Hotel and staff, Great, Rooms, not so much

The main areas of the Milner Hotel, namely the garden room and Peachy’s are beautiful, clean and well maintained.The staff are excellent; very attentive, welcoming and helpful. The only area of great disappointment was the rooms. Having been moved room due to the cleanliness and cramped nature of the first room, I was disappointed that the second room was not much better. Even though it was larger, faults were numerous. Beds that rolled away, pillows with no padding, window that wouldn’t stay shut, room safe that didn't work and shower that didn't drain properly to name some. Having paid for a superior room, i would have expected a far higher standard, especially for the price.

Room not the best

Breakfast was lovely, service and staff excellent. Room, not the best - had a wall and some kind of unit for a view out of window. Chair had a nasty stain, carpet was quite stained in places. We were put in an accessible room which wasn’t required and didn’t like, couldn’t be changed. Wardrobe rail was waist high and had to hang dresses, trousers and skirts outside the wardrobe. Both being quite tall struggled with sink in bathroom as very low, set for a wheelchair. Not a fan of wet rooms either.

Disappointing stay

My husband and I stayed at the Milner for 2 nights for a birthday/anniversary celebration. On arrival the reception is very impressive in a stunning building, the receptionist was very efficient, gave us the key and directions to our room. Unfortunately the directions included going down one floor in the lift, across the hall and back up one floor in another lift. We were in a side annexe which was disappointing, an obvious much later addition to the hotel. Room was on the small side with a tatty Roman blind at the window which could not be opened. The air con was noisy but on the plus side, the bed was big and very comfortable and everything was clean. As the most expensive 4 star hotel in York, I had high hopes but on reflection would not stay again.

Really nice stylish hotel with lovely staff and facilities. Because of a delay we arrived at the hotel after the cut off for breakfast but they went out of their way to get us a bite to eat,only a bacon bun but much appreciated.
