The moment we arrived at West Winds Motel and Cottages in Clayton, we knew we picked the right place to stay while visiting Thousand Islands. West Wind cottages are located along the St. Lawrence River with a beautiful view of the River from the entry to the property. We stayed in the motel type rooms there because there were no vacant cottages upon our arrival thinking that we could move to a cottage the next day when there was a vacancy, however, we enjoyed our room so much that we never changed to the cottage. The rooms were very clean and comfortable as was the bed. The bed was queen sized which was all they offered. The bathroom was a little small with only a shower but that worked for us. It was also immaculate. Clean towels were offered daily. The owner, Dean, was really nice and friendly. He took great care of the grounds showing care and pride in his business and treating us like family. He builds a nightly fire for all to enjoy and we even observed him blowing off the sidewalks for added cleanliness. He also accredited his wife for the nice little touches found on the property and in the rooms. There was a nice little 24 hour coffee room stocked and equipped with Keurig coffee, creamer, cups with lids, ice and even a wine bottle opener. All rooms and cottages have an outdoor picnic table which was convenient. There was an in ground pool which was very clean. We have great memories and pictures of our stay at West Winds. Thank you West Winds Motel and Cottages.

Recommended Stay

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights as a getaway to go visit the 1000 islands. The room was very clean, the owner of the motel was very friendly and helped us with all the questions we had, as it was our first time there. Owner lit a fire every night for the guests, and a very nice location. We will definitely be back.

We spent several days at West Winds and are stay was wonderful. Staff was every congenial they made you feel like you were a part of their family! Great with giving recommendations. The atmosphere was fabulous you could walk right down to the water.

Such a pleasure to stay there.

Very charming and set on beautiful grounds. The accomodations are very cozy and clean. This is my second time having the pleasure of staying there. I love the no frills simplicity. Just a short drive to the absolutely exquisite village of Clayton. Love it! Will definitely stay there again.

Very cute, quaint motel with cabins. The motel was was incredibly well maintained and immaculate. But it is a bit dated and a comfier bed would have been appreciated. Views were fantastic and the owners are amazing! Would have loved to sit outside the room and have a cup of coffee, but the neighbors used it as a smoking space. Yuck.

Really enjoyed our stay. Owner very friendly & helpful. Room was small but for two people, plenty of space. Beautiful view of the river. Very clean, easy, close parking, no stairs needed. Has clean pool, a firepit, nice driveway. I'd definitely stay there again.

It is what it is

The decore was drab. A definite mold/ must smell but lightened with window and door open. My wife noticed old perfume smell that came and went but not saying it was para-normal. The owmer was very nice and gracious. We had spent the last 5 nites in luxury hotels, so rustic old apartment is what it is!

The staff is exceptional in addressing every need. The accommodations are not fancy, but the beds were comfortable and the setting along the St. Lawrence River is lovely. It is a clean, comfortable unit and has everything you need for a restful place to stay.

Very nice option

We definitely enjoyed our stay at this Motel. Given availability when we booked, we were were in the 1st room near the road. The room needed airing out, which we did. Next time I would pick a room number 6+ or one of the cabins to reduce the road noise. The service was great. We loved the coffee and tea common area.
