Riverside family friendly cabin close to town but tucked away
This 3-bedroom, family-friendly cabin nestled right along the Colorado River is perfect for familes looking to escape but also be close to all the attractions of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park. Eclectic and cozy, come enjoy one of the first cabins built in in the Wildacres section of town. There are 3 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, WiFi (no TV), wood burning fireplace, central heating and two bathrooms featuring a shower and a bathtub. Sip a cocktail on the porch, play horshoes, or walk down and put your feet in the river. This is what Grand Lake is all about.
The location of this cabin is greatânestled among tall evergreens with easy access to the Colorado River, and just a short drive to Grand Lake village and RMNP. The beds were comfortable and the WiFi met our needs. The owner was very nice and responsive via call/text throughout the stay. That said, there were several issues that affected our experience. Prior to check-in, the owner shared instructions, but the listing didnât disclose that guests would need to manually turn on the water well, two water heater switches, and a furnace switch to get hot water and heat. These details wouldâve influenced our decision to book, had we known upfront. The door code provided didnât work, which caused initial frustration (this feedback was shared directly with the owner over phone to remediate for future guests). Basic essentials were lackingâno extra toilet paper, paper towels, and limited trash bags were available, and we had to purchase our own. The cooking staples (like salt and pepper) were expired, towels were limited, and the listing didnât clearly state there was no washer/dryer. One bathroom ran out of hot water, especially when breakers tripped, which we had to troubleshoot ourselves. The outdoor trash bin was already half full upon arrivalâlikely bad timing with trash pickup day. While we appreciate the charm of older cabins, clearer expectations and a more transparent listing would have helped us better prepareâand likely avoid some avoidable surprises during our stay.
We have a mixed review. The house is in a good spot on a dead end street with the Colorado river near by in an open meadow. We really enjoyed watching the wildlife from the property. During the stay we saw moose, deer, and even a bear! We also enjoyed the firepit every night with sâmores. However, the house lacked some basic necessities. For a house that sleeps 8, there were only 3 towels. There were no wash cloths in any of the baths and only the bottom fitted sheets on the beds. Given this is a new VRBO offering and a new VRBO host all of the things above would have been OK if only we knew about it ahead of time and could have brought our own. The good news is the host is responsive and Iâm sure will improve with experience.
