Gora Kadan is a unique experience, from the moment we were greeted at reception to the moment of our departure. Our room was beautiful and peaceful. The hotel went out of their way to accommodate our annoying dietary restrictions (one pescatarian and one who doesn’t eat shellfish) - the food was fantastic. We had a shiatsu massage which was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. We were sorry to leave. Hope we’ll be back

We stayed at Gora Kadan and were deeply moved by the extraordinary kindness and support we received from the staff during a sudden medical emergency. Not only was the team quick to respond and incredibly caring, but one of the staff members even accompanied us in the ambulance and stayed by our side at the hospital to help us communicate with the doctors and medical staff. At the same time, the manager personally drove our children to the hospital so we could all be together as a family during this stressful moment. This thoughtful gesture went far beyond anything we could have expected and speaks volumes about the level of dedication and genuine kindness that defines Gora Kadan. We will never forget the care and support we received. Our heartfelt thanks to Pola, the manager, and the entire team for being by our side when we needed it most.

Gora Kadan was easily one of the nicest properties I’ve ever stayed at in my life. Everything was absolutely immaculate. The onsen was stunning and the kaiseki dinner was an experience to remember. In my view very much worth the money to experience this property.

A disappointing experience overall - slow check in, facilities need to be update, preferences provided in advance were not followed, room was warm and could not be cooled below 74F, staff was very friendly but not very knowledgeable, train tracks near property were surprisingly loud, etc. Not worth the price.

Great place in Hakone (2 hours drive from Tokyo)

We had 2 rooms for us - enjoyed the night in Gora Kadan Onsen (Spa) on the way from Kyoto to Tokyo. We had full board = dinner + breakfast and, while not at all low cost, it was one of the most memorable stays one can have with great food and very traditional Japan onsen atmosphere

The hotel is tired. There was no early check in and really nothing much to do at the hotel while we waited for our room. The rooms are nice in size and very clean and service was amazing. Food was ok and there was just a smell like wet cat food that we couldn’t shake. It was our last stop in a 14 day journey and we were hoping for more with the price tag is all.

There’s no doubt this is an excellent hotel. But the question is whether it’s excellent enough to justify its price. Not quite was our conclusion. Service was absolutely sensational and the overall feel of the hotel is absolutely wonderful as an authentic Ryokan experience. But there is just a bit of wear and tear in the rooms and the onsen area isn’t all that impressive for a hotel of this caliber. Little things like a broken espresso machine (meaning none available in the hotel)

We were gifted a night at Gora Kadan for our honeymoon, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the breathtaking views and serene traditional gardens to the soothing onsen and stone baths, every detail felt magical. Delicious food and the hospitality was unforgettable—the staff came out to wave goodbye as we drove away, and I actually shed a tear leaving such a special place. While the property could use a light refresh, its timeless charm and deep sense of tradition made it one of the most memorable experiences of my life. If I ever return to Japan, I will absolutely make it a point to stay here again.
