Absolutely wonderful and authentic, the host taught us so much about local history and the room was cute! Also close to the square with drinks and good food. Would 100% come again
Loved all the history and tour at check in. Restaurants and shops within walking distance and quaint main street area. Bed was very comfortable and slept great.
Building needs some repairs and upkeep but it was built in the 1880's and this was part of the charm for us.
The host was very enthusiastic about showing the place and very cooperative making sure the booking went well. All the amenities you might need were available, a lovely deck out back and a pleasant walk to local shops and a few restaurants and bars. I would love to stay again if the opportunity comes up again.
The museum was quite interesting (the James gang, indeed!) and the volunteers friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the history of the place, and the room was quite comfortable.
People... always people ! Hosts Frank and Maria are priceless. The Hotels.com site advertises Airport Shuttle, but fails to mention 'Not on Sunday'. Answer... Frank and Maria got uo Sunday morning and drove me to the airport ! Frank is a living, breathing History Book. Not only did he guide me through the Museum, but pointed out key sites as we drove. Now we have to go back, so my wife can enjoy.
The inn was so unique and had such amazing history. Frank was the sweetest and so nice about us coming in later. When we came he showed us around and told us all about Smithvilleâs history and some of the artifacts there. Canât wait to come again!
More museum than bed and breakfast. Museum and tour were very interesting but guest rooms were too crowded with objects, making it difficult to use the space. No food service so not a true bed and breakfast. Frank, who greeted us and gave our tour was very friendly and informative about the history of Smithville.
The Smithville Inn was very clean. The room had a large bathroom with a bathtub and shower. It is up a flight of stairs and there is no elevation. the staff was very helpful. They picked me up at the airport and took me back the next day. There is a kitchen where you can cook food if you want and make coffee. I did not have a car and there is not a store close by but I was fine with that. I got a tour of the museum before I left. It's a great place to relax. There is a patio outside with a table and umbrella.
Amazing - if you are interested in the last few hundred years of U.S. History, I'd put this one on your list of places to visit. Just a great experience. Out of the innumerable artifacts dating back to the end of the 18th century, I particularly was taken back by the original copy of a page from April 15th, 1865 - I didn't have time to see everything. The property's stewards will most likely offer a tour and they are really nice folks. I thought this location was aggressively under priced.
