Room was not vacuumed all week and never received enough towels or toiletries each day. Even after requesting additional items either did not receive them or was long delay.

Right in the middle of Manchester - easy to find.

not particularly expensive - the single room was small but servicable.

Good value and location

Pros: Location
Cons: Mattress and a noise policy.
This hotel was excellent value for our budget. The location is excellent. Within minutes we could walk to the train station, the bus terminal, and a lot of nearby restaurants and attractions. My only complaints are the mattress could have been more comfortable and there is a bit of noise you can hear from outside (typical for a hotel in the heart of any city) and you could hear guests in nearby rooms if they were being noisy (nothing earplugs couldn't fix). Over all, I really can't complain for the budget and I would stay here again.

Good value, good servicer

Sept 2009 was our second vacation stay. My niece also stayed here a couple of years ago. It is an older hotel but very well maintained with a competent, friendly staff. We found booking through travel agency saved us over one third on the price over the hotel's website. Very centrally located about a 10 minute walk from the Oxford (City Centre) train station and easily accessible to most of the things you want to see in Manchester. Highly recommended.

Nice place - would stay again.

Very cool, old hotel. Breakfast was good and the hotel bar was quite active. Parking was at a city lot around the corner for about 15 quid. Wireless internet is free, but so slow that it was essentially useless. Don't try to VPN with it. Otherwise a great place in the heart of Manchester.

A pleasant surprise

The Britannia Manchester can be a grim hotel experience when staying in a standard room. During our most recent visit, I booked a special rate for an Executive double and kept my fingers crossed. It certainly was a pleasant surprise. While the room was compact, it was newly papered and painted. It was also very clean, even to the corners of the bathroom floor! The bed was comfortable and covered with a fresh, spotless white duvet. It was also blessedly quiet. While breakfast was not included, a Costa was a block away and Starbucks was at the train station. Certainly, this room was basic, no frills accommodation, but for $*per night, we weren't complaining.
