We’ve stayed her before and had a great experience a few years back, so decided to stay again with our kids. We travelled 7 hours from Canberra and had an event the evening of arrival so I confirmed a couple of weeks out that the check-in time was 2pm so we could prepare ourselves for the night ahead. We arrived close to 3pm and our rooms weren’t ready, we were told to go to the restaurant and sit for 15 minutes and then we would be able to check-in. I expressed that we had planned the timing so that our kids could nap after a long drive and we could refresh for our event. I didn’t even receive a mere “we’re sorry for the inconvenience”, just to go buy a drink at the onsite restaurant/bar. After the 15 minutes I went back to the lobby and was told only one of our rooms was ready and they would come let me know when the adjoining room was done. By the time we got the key for the second room we then had to wait for another staff member to unlock the adjoining doors which took another 30 minutes. I understand things don’t always go as planned but the fact that I had checked the time we could check-in combined with the lack of apologies for inconvenience really reflected the poor customer service. When we checked out 2 days later we weren’t even asked how our stay was. Maybe I’m old school but the customer service experience (or lack there of) will see us never return to Oaks. Waiting 2+hours for check-in without notice is ridiculous especially when no compensation is offered.

Disappointing service

I stayed at Oaks Melbourne St Kilda Road Hotel on 2–3 October and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with the way the hotel handled my lost property. I accidentally left behind a brand new, sealed $80 bottle of Lira face wash in my room. When I called the same evening, the receptionist informed me that housekeeping had already thrown it out, claiming it was “hotel policy” due to contamination risk. This explanation is absurd – it was a sealed pump bottle, impossible to contaminate. Instead of assisting me, the receptionist was dismissive and provided no real help or alternatives. For a hotel of this standard, I expected professionalism and some effort to resolve the matter, not a flat refusal. The careless disposal of a valuable, sealed personal item and the poor treatment I received from the front desk left me deeply dissatisfied. Guests deserve better respect and service. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property after such a disappointing experience.

Great hotel, it was conveniently located across from where we needed to be the us consulate. We will definitely be staying their again when we go to that part of Melbourne again. Check in was smooth and the lady at the front desk was lovely. It was late when we arrived so we ordered uber eats no issues. Gym was great. We also were able to check out at 11am wich was great because we were not sure how long the visa interview would go for.

The location was great in regards to the trams and the fining choices were amazing! Woolworths was across the road. The furnishings were simple, tha mattress had brown stains on it and the smell of the rubbish chute permeated the air as soon as the lifts opened. So, take the good with the bad.

Loved the location and premises. Staff were excellent and great having a cafe on site. The only downside was that the rooms were not serviced each day and there was a charge for daily service. This was not explained on check in.
