Location was fabulous. Only one block from the beach we were walking distance to all the South Beach restaurants and bars. The staff was amazing very accommodating held our luggage even though we weren’t leaving till very late the day we checked out would definitely come back.

After receiving a message that my room was ready, I spent over an hour walking back and forth to the front desk because my room keys would not open the door. The door lock was non-functional and the front desk service continued to reprogram the keys. After calling "engineering", I was finally able to get into my room. And "engineering" barely seattached the back panel to the lock. The desk staff comped me two free drink coupons for the hotel or bar for the inconvenience. The vouchers were for liquor only. Check out is at 11:00 am and the bars dont start serving liquor until 12:00 pm. When speaking with management at checkout about the situation, I was offered to redeem my vouchers for 1 can of Bud Light each, effectively valuing my wasted time at $6.00 in beer. The hotel room was nice and the location was good, but the service was conoletely unnacceptable.

Work Needed!

Sat at the bar and the service was terrible, female bartender rude and inattentive. A friend of hers sat at the bar with his laptop with the volume super loud and that’s where her attention was at. My room door had the don’t disturb sign and room service came in regardless. Concierge gave me drink tickets due to some other related matter gone wrong and the bartender wouldn’t honor it because I wasn’t ordering a cocktail and want a neat drink. News flash a cocktail consist of 2oz of liquor whether it’s mixed or neat. Needless to say will not be returning from someone who works in hospitality/ hotel.

Came for an extended weekend for sun, sand and R&R. Excellent hotel, location and vibes. I will be back. I come to Miami regularly and this is my favorite hotel stay by far.

Horrible Family Experience

I would never recommend The Gates hotel to anyone that wants to have an enjoyable experience. I’ve traveled all over the country and world, however, I’ve never had an experience where the hotel flat out doesn’t care for their customers like The Gates at Miami Beach. I placed my reservation for a two queen bed room for my family, reached out 24hrs in advance to confirm my reservation, and even told them when I would be arriving. Nonetheless, without contacting me, the hotel gave up my room. So I arrived with a family of four at 2AM, just to be told there are no rooms and we moved you to a hotel miles away in a room with a single king bed - good luck. Nothing from a manager, not even an apology. Yes, we were arriving late but that’s why I contacted the hotel. I’m reluctant to ever use Hotels.com again and I certainly won’t stay at The Gates - neither should you.

This is not a four star hotel. I waited a half hour to check in to a 3 star room. And had to do it the next day because they somehow messed it up. The room is old, ugly, poor quality room, linens, towels. No amenities. Bathroom is super low end. They have no room service of their own and some affiliated restaurant delivery is only until 9-10pm. If food has to be ordered from outside they do not let the delivery person deliver to the room and they do not call the room to tell them the delivery person is there. The keys stopped working, the elevators are slow as molasses and when I checked ahead of time to see how long the pool was, the hotel did not respond. I asked twice and no response. I assumed given the extremely high resort fee, that the pool would be decent. Don’t believe the picture it is not even 8 meters long and full. I used no services and am being charged $45/day. For what? Worst hotel I’ve stayed in for months. It is pretty much a motel which you will see when you pass the ice machine and realize that not one bottle of water is left in the room for the guests. Pathetic. I would never recommend to anyone. Oh, and it was heavily raining when I arrived and no cover when getting in and out of cars so with no help from the staff I had to carry my luggage through at least a foot deep of water and septic flood. Staff could have suggested a different entrance but did not.

I like the area and the stuff. Rooms and bathrooms are not so clean. Hotel should be renovated to the more modern look. Lobby area is not attractive at all. Overall, I am happy with the stay and will return if hotels get renovated.

The service was not good at all. I will not stay there again. However, rooms were quieter, there was a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Restaurant was OK. There are many choices if you stay further south of this place.

The rooms are small, considering the grandness of the rest of the property. The hotel staff is friendly and courteous; however, the staff at the hotel restaurant left a lot to be desired. We arrived at the restaurant about thirty minutes before closing. Service was slow and we had to ask for basics like water and napkins. We spent one hundred dollars for our dinner and did not get the service we expected for the amount they asked.

they charged $8 for water that looked like it was complimentary, there wasn’t a price on the bottle. We got locked out on the balcony, the key card to the room did not open the balcony door. Thankfully we had a phone with us and could call the front desk. They sent someone up to let us back in our room and he told us there was nothing wrong with the door lock and we should go get different key cards. Unsatisfactory.
