Named after local Marine Biologist, Edward F. Ricketts, the Ricketts' Retreat House has a classy Monterey Bay feel . Last house at the end of the street with an enclosed private yard, and naturally, you can see the ocean from the driveway. In 3 blocks, you could be at the fire-pits of Twin Lakes Beach, sailing a boat at the Harbor, or grabbing a bite to eat at the Crow's Nest or Johnny's Harbor side. In one mile, you could be riding the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Additionally, the famed Steamer Lane surf spot, West Cliff, Capitola, and UC Santa Cruz's Seymour Marine Discovery Center are within a four-mile radius of the house.

The House is furnished in good taste with all essential amenities including linens, towels, and paper products. The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, dresser, closet, adjoining the bright bathroom (with windows) and walk-in shower. Kitchen has a gas stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and garbage disposal. Adjoining to the kitchen is a dining area, and the living room with pull out double sofa bed. Gas fireplace with temperature control, 36" Smart TV , DVD player, and WiFi are also present for your enjoyment. House comes ready with a washer and dryer and is essential for beach-goers. The backyard has a hot tub, shower, gas barbecue, outdoor furniture, and the front yard has bistro seating and hammock. Parking on street with no permit required, and driveway parking. Enjoy the retreat any time of year. Local PG&E yard is sometimes within earshot.

Great location!
This cute, cozy bungalow is perfect! A well-stocked kitchen made it nice to eat in. We enjoyed being off the busy streets but yet were able to get where we wanted by walking. The hot tub was also a pleasure. Glad we were able to stay here for a week.

Well-appointed cottage that was easy to access and on a lovely quiet street. The kitchen had almost all the needed items. The yard was perfect for our pups. The bed and bath were clean and set up wonderfully with soft sheets, comfortable towels, and lovely decor. We will be back!

Cute & comfortable little house
Clean, convenient, comfy place. Only complaint is the very narrow driveway. I’d recommend parking in front of the house rather than trying to squeeze your car into the driveway. But you can’t always park in front because other cars park there too sometimes. Other than that, it’s a great little getaway in Santa Cruz, very close to the beach & harbor.

Great little place by the harbor
Cute & clean house, comfortable bed, nice gas fireplace, good little yard for a dog. And a hot tub! My only complaint would be the driveway. It’s really narrow & hard to maneuver into. There are 2 posts about halfway down the length of it, on the right. Watch out for them! Unfortunately I got too close & my car got scraped. I didn’t have anyone in the passenger side of my car; if I had, they could have warned me I was getting too close (but then of course, they wouldn’t have been able to exit the car on that side, it’s so tight!) I gave 4 stars for the overall rating because of this. There is parking in front of the house, which I would recommend instead of the driveway! Otherwise, it’s an awesome, very comfortable place!

This was.a nice small cottage to stay at. Unfortunately we had on the first day of 3 days due to an evacuation notice given by the county. We asked if we could change the dates and use it another time and we were told no. We did not ask for a refund. We thought it might be reasonable due to the circumstances.
