Always Superb

A beautiful home away from home. Beautifully decorated, very handy walk to the Quay and The Rocks. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. I can highly recommend a stay at The Sir Stamford.

This property is perfectly positioned near the heart of Sydney, with the Opera House and Circular Quay a 5 minute walk. The Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery are also very close by. We upgraded to a larger room and were really happy with the spaciousness, amenities, cleanliness and the comfortable beds. The added bonus was that we had a view of Sydney harbour. This is not a modern hotel, rather it is old school with large marble bathrooms, good lighting and lots of room to move. Some of the furniture had seen better days but for the length of time we were there, it did not matter. I would definitely stay there again as it is so convenient and reasonably priced. This hotel is also well positioned particularly if you don't have a car and like to explore the city on foot.

This was a shockingly terrible hotel. Do not stay here. It is so dirty, warn with the paint peeling off the walls, the carpets stained everywhere and bad smells throughout. I can not believe this is a 5 star hotel. Moreover the service is poor; no one to help with bags. It is a scary hotel, almost feels like a hotel from a horror movie or something.

This once lovely hotel has deteriorated to the point of being shabby and grubby I understand it will close its doors as a hotel at the end of September due to redevelopment of the site I have stayed there on a number of occasions simply because of its proximity to the Opera House which is an easy walk away It's a shame to see what was once a delightful and traditional 'old world' hotel decline and be swept away by new development As it is now it is now a 3 star hotel in a desirable location

Beautiful, but a little long in the tooth

We love Sara Stamford at circular Quay and have stayed there several times over the last few years. However, this facility is getting to be a bit dated. Carpets need to be replaced. Electrical outlets should work properly. Taps in the bathroom could be updated. Just in general. It is about time that Sara Stanford invested the money at Tax to update this facility. The service is always spectacular and it is in a very nice location near the Opera house. Breakfast is terrific.

I booked a harbour view room. On checking in, I was allocated a room without a harbour view. The receptionist argued the toss with me, when I queried this. I was eventually allocated a "harbour view" room. The so-called view, for almost twice the price of my originally (and wrongly) allocated room, was in fact a glimpse of the bridge between two buildings adjacent to the hotel. The description was, in my opinion, misleading. I would not knowingly have paid that amount of money for the view I got.

Comfortable, traditional hotel with great staff

A very comfortable, traditionally decorated hotel close to the Opera House, Circular Quay and the Botanic Gardens. The staff were amazing and I was treated very well. Nothing was too much trouble.
