Poor Management, bargaining with guests and trying to get them less of what they paid for

Good in all respects

We stay here once a year when we visit our kids and grand kids in Toronto. The location is terrific, the beds super comfortable, the staff very accommodating and there is a lovely indoor pool. We also like the restaurant. We keep coming back!

Could've been a nice hotel

Pros: - Nice, clean lobby. - Nice pool area. - Free wifi, though slow.
Cons: Get rid of cigarette smoke fumes Make room every day instead of only 1 out of 4 days Clean sink & bathroom thoroughly (sink overflow drain smelled)
Location: Very close to the Ontario Science Centre.
Stayed Fri-Tue over civic holiday & the Caribbean/Caribana Festival. The hotel was completely booked so some issues may be attributed to the holiday crowds. Pros: - Nice, clean lobby. - Nice pool area. - Free wifi, though slow. Cons: - Cigarette smoke fumes came in from A/C ventilation system despite it being a non-smoking hotel; hotel staff was unable to resolve the issue nor move us to another room. - Ceiling above the shower was water-damaged and leaking water from the room above (when room above was using bathroom); hotel staff came to check but again was not able to fix the issue nor move us to another room. - Bathroom sink overflow drain needed to be cleaned; it smelled awful and hosted small, flying insects. - Room making only came 1 day out of the 4 day stay (the first day only). - the hotel overbooked for Carribean Festival weekend; there were many poor folks waiting to get rooms (if any). - like many hotels, it charged for parking. - Management did not compensate for the smoke nor the leaking/dripping bathroom ceiling.

Enjoyable, Comfortable, Clean, Hospitable, Some Construction

The hotel was great. We paid about 1/2 of what i would have cost by going online. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. Our room and the hotel over all was very clean. Parking was about twelve dollars per night (not outrageous for Toronto), but that included valet services. Breakfast buffet was about twenty dollars per person per day (we ordered our breakfasts through online and saved a lot there too). The hotel was doing some construction, but they were doing a good job of keeping out of sight of their guests. Unfortunately the construction was our view our our bedroom window. No big deal though. Hotel has a restaurant, bar, spa/pool/fitness area, concierge, free wireless and wired internet, very helpful front desk, and can exchange some small amounts of currency. Parking is a pain around the Toronto area. I suggest getting a day pass (nine dollars, good for 2 adults on the weekends) for the Toronto Transit Center (ttc.com) and riding it as much as possible. The Subway is very nice and easy. There is a 7/11 down the street from the hotel that sells them, and bus stops within walking distance of the hotel.

Pretty Good Overall

I stayed at this hotel for 4 days and 3 nights in August 2008. There was major construction going on and had been for some time as I understand but I was not in any way affected by it. My stay was nice and quite and the hotel looks pretty nice inside and out besides the construction. If you are expecting extreme luxury like 4-5 stars dont bother. It was nice and comfortable and the lobby looks nice but you can tell it's not all star quality but as I said before it is nice. The staff very nice. They charge for every little thing ( such as local calls and 12 dollar mandatory valet per night) which is why I am not staying there next time but it was nice while I was there. Also room service is fast and friendly but food is only so so. I would stay there again if I needed to or couldnt find a place with free parking and local calls. Bed was very nice.

Better than expected.

As of summer 2008, there is still a lot of construction. A high-rise condo and retirement center are planned for the same property. The entrance to the hotel changed 3 times while we were there. If you can get a room away from the construction, you should have a pleasant stay. Heavy work usually didn't begin until after 9AM. If you're driving, the hotel is about 15 minutes from downtown. Parking is valet only ($12 a day). The restaurant is quite good (but somewhat expensive).

Avoid this hotel

First, there is a major construction project going on in front of the hotel. Parking is a nightmare & retrieving our car from the valet service took over 20 minutes. When we got to our room, there was plywood board over the sliding glass doors. At first, the front desk refused to give us another room citing a group taking up much of the rooms. Finally, they relented and gave us another room. The new room was fine, except that we couldn't open our sliding glass doors as they were locked. Beds were ok. The hotel advertises an indoor and outdoor pool, but the outdoor pool is now gone due to construction. Indoor pool is small with hardly anywhere to sit. In the stairwell leading to the pool, there was infestation of ants. Staff members seemed not to care. \n\nThe highlight of our stay was the restaurant. The wait staff were excellent and very friendly. The food was really good! We especially enjoyed the Cesaer's salad and the baba ganoush (sp?). \n\nThe location was convient for our needs as we were visiting extended family, but trying to get to the city by public transportation took quite a while. One has to take a bus then subway to get downtown. About a 40 minute journey.\n\nOverall, not the best experience. We were disappointed because we expected so much more from a Crowne Plaza.
