Riverfront Rustic 1824 Mansion
Escape to magical sunsets on the Hudson. Soak in the pristine clawfoot tub. Viking pro-grade cookware for the chef in you. 6-burner gas barbecue. Cappucinos on balcony while the dogs run and the kids bounce safely on enclosed trampoline. Rambling 2-flr apt with original 1824 wide-plank floors and beams. Balcony for serene views over wine. Paddle canoe to historic Erie Canal by day. Nights around 2 fire pits on the grand lawn with friends. Many have loved this historic home --you will too! This house is 200 years old last year! Herman Melville lived up the street, literally. Three blocks up. Yet the renovation makes it modern and comfortable â ample kitchen gadgets and multiple TVs with streaming, while still enjoying original exposed beams, peace and quiet and campfires and canoeing on the river the way the Iroquois and the early settlers did it. Access the three bedrooms upstairs (king bedroom, second bedroom and another with a balcony). Please don't use the garage or basement. Please call or text anytime if you have questions, thanks! Groundskeeper/Housekeeper just steps away for any unforeseen need. There is a small park across from the house called Powers Park. Next door we have CVS and Stewards Shops. Best grocery shopping in this area is at Hannaford. We love going to Peebles Island for a hike and the Snowman for ice-cream. Downtown Troy is 8 min drive away from the house and offers plenty of restaurant options as well as an amazing farmers market every Saturday. Our guests can park in the driveway or on the street (111 st). There is a bus stop on 2nd ave, right by the house, as well as City Bikes station.
Nice and very interesting property. If your into old historical properties you will love this place. Plenty of room for four adults, my grandson and our two dogs. We would stay here again. Thank You
We were very excited to stay here based on the listing and prior reviews, especially after a long trip. Unfortunately, our experience was very different! We arrived late at night after a 13 hour drive and, due to health and safety concerns, could not stay and needed to book a hotel instead. The night before our arrival, the host initially stated that police had been called on us, even though we had not yet checked in. The host later realized this was a mistake and apologized. Only after check in did we learn there had been a break in at the property the night before, which had not been disclosed beforehand. Upon entering, we observed what appeared to be blood on and under a bathmat, nail clippings in a bedroom, chewed gum throughout the space, a smoked joint in the refrigerator, dirty utensils in the drawer, and grime and dust on surfaces. There was also broken glass upon arrival, exposed nails, and a door lock that did not function. There were missing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors where mounts were present. We were not aware this was a shared house. There was an open door to another portion of the property, which made us feel unsafe. We reported this to VRBO and the case was immediately escalated to their health and safety team.It was an unfortunate experience for us and hope the hosts can do better for guests in the future.
The hosts were extremely accommodating when I ended up having a couple extra guests last minute. The home is beautiful, truly historic. We would definitely stay again!
Such an amazingly unique property with a wonderfully homey feel! While Troy has some not so great parts, we felt reasonably comfortable and safe here. It's amazing to have the Hudson right by on.
This is a spacious 3 bedroom riverfront unit right on the Hudson River. Everything needed is there. There are exposed beams, brick walls, and multiple areas of evidence where portions of the home were added on or modified over the years. This home is a treasure and is full of untold history. All modern conveniences are present. The hosts were extremely gracious and helpful, checking in multiple times to are assure that the stay was pleasant and that everything was provided.
