The advertised pictures do not at all match the reality. The building no doubt was an important part of Kamloops during its prime. It is well past its prime. It also suffers from being in the part of the city, like so many, where many of the residents are homeless and have substance use issues. On our arrival we had to attend to a young person by the hotel entrance in distress requiring immediate emergency intervention. The hotel staff did little in way of offering assistance. They did not have adequate first aid equipment, supplies nor a working defibrillator. The available outdoor parking although under video surveillance is unattended, with many people milling around. I felt very uneasy leaving our car in an open parking lot. All this to say, this is a property, a Wyndham property, needs to reassess its operations and how it represents its.

The pictures are not a fair representation of the property. Old, dingy and noisy. Bad elements surround the property. Drunk and stoned homeless people harass you. Very small elevator due to age of property, so don’t plan on taking you family and luggage up at the same time. Remove everything from your vehicle. Parking is limited, if you can’t get one of the dozen spots, they have secondary parking over two blocks away. Staff seem to be oblivious to the conditions of the hotel. The breakfast leaves something to be desired, so food was undercooked, and the glass were not very clean.

Overall the hotel I would say is okay. We stopped for one night during a road trip, but I wouldn’t choose to stay longer. The hotel room didn’t look at all like the photos, the carpet was quite dirty and there were a few stains on the bedding. The hotel also has quite the “old” smell. The doors and walls are also quite thin, so it is very noisy and you can hear everything in the hall. The free breakfast in the morning was phenomenal, with plenty of variety which we really enjoyed!

The hotel is centrally located so is convenient with bars and restaurants close by. We only stayed one night as it was to break up the long 9 hour drive from Jasper to Whistler so didn’t have anything planned for the area. Parking is available but is very limited at the hotel. They do offer parking up the road by the double tree hotel so if you arrive and can’t park at the hotel going and ask reception and they will show you where to park. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was included. The hotel itself felt dated and tired but for the one night transiting through it did everything we wanted.

Liked the location for why we were there, but it is downtown and we were moderately concerned about our bike being messed with. Outdoor patio was great but hotel needs to hire more service staff.

The Plaza Hotel is a unique opportunity to stay at a heritage hotel for a reasonable rate. I enjoyed the architectural and historical details throughout the hotel. Being downtown, parking was slightly inconvenient but hotel staff were very helpful in locating an alternative within easy walking distance.
